Why Doesn't Carlson Call For Palin's Execution, Uygur Asks (VIDEO)

Execution is political, Cenk Uygur posited last night.

Sitting in as host of 'The Ed Show' on MSNBC, Uygur addressed conservative pundit Tucker Carlson's statement that Philadelphia Eagles Michael Vick should have been executed for running a dog fighting ring -- instead of the 18 months in prison that he served.

Drawing parallels to conservative icon Sarah Palin's hunting trips, during which she shot and killed caribous, on her show 'Sarah Palin's Alaska,' Uygur asks Carlson, rhetorically, what the difference between Palin and Vick is -- and why only the football player should be put to death.

"And if you're executing people because they killed defenseless animals, you might want to remember this," Uygur said, before showing the clip of Palin shooting the caribou.

"I know there's a difference, but is it really that large?" he continued. "Sarah Palin is folksy for killing a caribou who is clearly trapped and defenseless if you watch that show, and Michael Vick should be executed?

Neither Palin or Vick deserve to be making millions of dollars through their "celebrity."

As for the dog fighting -- HP would not allow what I have to say on that subject.

What Vick did was evil and I don't think he should be executed but a few tours in Afghanastan might cure his blood-lust or at least he would be worrying about his own hide and doing something useful. I doubt anyone actually ate Palin's caribou. He was probably doped up.Has anyone demanded a drug test on the body?

Read the replies & what they must require is MARKSMANSH­IP for hunters. Have never hunted, nor have interest to hunt. As long as hunting for food exists, they must require all hunteres & hunteresse­s to get a marksmansh­ip. Also, this may sound silly but it's more humane for a hunter to kill a hare with a bullet through the heart-1 gunshot, than to have a python strangle a rabbit or hare. Nature can be cruel. Lions, tigers, leopards, etc. train their kittens to hunt by bringing a baby deer or antelope (fawn) alive & then let their kittens kill the fawn.

People must make hunting more humane as long as it exists. Bobbysgurl has said that she is against hunting in all cases. If she is reading this, since she said that nature should take care of itself, does it mean that if a wolf is starving to death because it's teeth were knocked out by a moose kick or the wolf broke it's leg, then we should just let nature take it's course or is it more humane (as it's my view) for a hunter to humanely kill the wolf with a bullet through the heart? Anyhow, share your thoughts, because nature can be cruel & animals can kill eachother cruelly.”

Although i despise Palin, i I think Cenk's analogy is pretty dumb. As long as an animal is eaten and it's not endangered or anything like that, i got no problem with hunting. Anyone who badmouths hunting and is not a vegetarian is a hypocrit.

Cenk would have made a much better analogy if he showed clips of Palin shooting wolves from a helicopter a few years ago.

By that logic what Vick did would be justified had he eaten the dogs. The difference to me is that dogs are intelligent creatures that have adapted alongside humans for tens of thousands of years.

Carlson is incapable of drawing distinctions because they cancelled all art classes in his school's budget crisis. Well, actually they also cancelled all PE classes so perhaps he can't lift a drawing instrument. Is that too obtuse?

As tongue in cheek as Mr. Uygur's comments were, there is a major distinction. What Vick did was illegal, and what Palin did was legal. It's a stupid comment and analogy. Should Vick be executed? No. But following Mr. Uygur's logic, every successful hunter should be executed, as should every operator of slaughterhouses.

Legal does not equal right. The people investigating Troopergate found that while Palin and husband were not criminally culpable, they had still done wrong. For years you could effectively drink and drive in Texas. That didn't make it right. Or smart.

Could what palin did really be called hunting? Was she just lucky or was there some staging involved to make sure that animal was there to be killed? Also, the caribou was killed, not for sustenance, but to further a commercial enterprise, her tv show.
One could draw a parallel.

Vick is a neanderthal without brain cells, and cannot feel. I think he should have been subjected to all the trauma and torture he inflicted on these poor dogs; he's just the worst side of human nature. Ditto to Sarah, she too cannot feel.

I bet you've never met the guy and I would bet you've never even seen a game he's played in. And I bet he's far more contrite regarding the errors of his past than you are. To be fair, Tucker's comments about Michael Vick were over the top. However, may dog lovers said this and much worse when Vick was first busted. These comments were not calling for a moral paradigm shift, they were expressions of anger and disgust that people felt on a personal level.

Most people have or have had dogs as companions in their lives. The idea of one of them being harmed hits on an intimate level, one that causes an emotional reaction with a lot of us. Caribou, moose, elk, deer aren't kept as pets. The closest most of us will ever be to a caribou is seeing it in a zoo, which doesn't personalize the full majesty or scope of these wonderful creatures. Plus with the show constantly referring to them as MEAT, MEAT, MEAT they are seen with as much personality as a supermarket case full of roasts. Sarah may show herself killing and eating these creatures, but she never captures their spirit, beauty or dignity. They're just stuff next to the mashed potatoes.
