Iphone Alarm Not Working

Engadget:

We're not exactly sure of the cause of this fancy new issue affecting Apple's super cool iPhone line of cellphones, but apparently you've got trouble come 1/1/2011. According to an explosive stream of frustration-filled tweets on the Twitter microblogging service, when the clock strikes midnight, one off alarms will cease to sing out.

Fortunately I'm always awake before the alarm goes off. For me it's just a backup unless I'm traveling then my internal clock gets messed up and I need the alarm clock.

I've actually been expecting them to drop the clock at some point since they didn't include one 'natively' with the iPad.

The app that's annoying me this morning is accuweather I'm in Portland Oregon and the weather and forecast video for 'local' are for Portland,ME!!!

I even checked and made sure the app was set to Portland, OR and not Portland, ME...

Good think I have the weather underground on my phone, they have always been correct!!

I gave my husband a suspicious brow this morning when he said, "hey, my alarm didn't go off!" after he'd slept in. I'd automatically assumed user error. Nope. It's Steve Jobs' fault.

You would think that since Apple's mobile division engineers have basically one phone model to design and perfect every year, (unlike Motorolas or better yet, the much derided Nokias who cater to various markets and consumer tastes...) it would pretty much be perfect. Apparently not it seems...

A pretty UI does not make a good phone. Unfortunately people are easily swayed by it and the awesome marketing machine employed by Apple. They are quick to gloss over any (proven) problems of the iphone, blind to the fact that if you discount the UI and perhaps the touch screen display, the iphone does not offer much, feature wise...

Nonsense. My iPhone 4 alarm worked just fine this a.m. for today only.
I think there is a group of wanna-be writers who think their path to success lies in fabricating anti-Apple stories.

So Apple is lying as well when they have reportedly said they are aware of the issue and offered a workaround?
Apple: "We're aware of an issue related to non repeating alarms set for January 1 or 2. Customers can set recurring alarms for those dates and all alarms will work properly beginning January 3."
But I hear ya. Don't let the facts get in the way of your opinion. I say as long as you don't drive a DeLorean, equipped with a Flux Compactor you're straight for at least a year but thats me looking at the bright said again.

My iPhone 3Gs alarm did not work this morning. Just because you did not have an issue does not mean it did not happen. It could be related to which iOS you have. If you don't believe me you can ask my employee who call me asking where I was when I was still asleep 15mins after I was to send him home.

I thought this was just some internet rumor. So it's true IOS4 has a alarm problem?

Chalk this one up as the same kind of brouhaha surrounding the Y2K non-event. My iPhone works fine.

Becaused you did not experience a bug does not mean that it does not exist.

Pity AT&T deliberately undermines the competition while propping up the iPhone - but what else is new in the "free market": http://androidandme.com/2010/03/news/att-the-most-crippled-android-experience/ -- my point being, if companies spent more time working for customers than their own little backroom dealings to protect their own interests, everybody would be happier and there'd be one less reason to lambaste the "free market"... especially given the vitriol aimed against poor AT&T service quality. Thugs and swindlers, they all are.

It's called "inadequate hardware/software testing."

Apple is not the only company with this problem. Facebook, for example, had 4,000+ bugs in its bug database, as of a few months ago.

A bug involving the calendar is embarassing, because usually bugs involving date and time are both foreseeable and repeatable, which means that they should be easy to anticipate and duplicate.

I guess I'm a "hater" (according to some folks), because I pointed-out the obvious. (sigh)

Mac Rumors reported this days ago, it's a known issue.

How many unfortunate iPhone owning souls needed to be up early on new year's day? You could almost call it a feature, not a bug, if it only effects new year's day.

Regardless of that my iPhone 4's alarm went off at 12.30pm today, just as I'd set it.

Yet another issue.  It is a shorter list just mentioning what is right about it.  The list of what doesn't work grows longer each day.  It's shaping up to be a crappy phone on a crappy network.

And to think that Nokia phones never suffered from this issue. I am selling my iPhone and getting myself an N8 instead...

Um, wait a minute....I just used an N8...I think I'll keep my iPhone after all.

Funny thing is your android would not even exist if it were not for apple. How do like those apples?
