Andrej Pejic, Androgynous Model, In High Demand (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

First Posted: 01/04/11 08:31 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

We don't think we've formally introduced you to model of the moment Andrej Pejic...the male model of the moment, that is. With his long blond locks and soft features, the 19-year-old Serbian-turned-Australian is in high demand this season -- walking runways for John Galliano and Paul Smith, and shooting ads for Marc Jacobs (one of which was just released; see below) and Jean Paul Gaultier.

In case you didn't get the memo, androgyny is in. Take a look at Andrej and some of his work below -- including the time he went back to Serbia to visit his grandma.

I wonder what he looks like without make up?

To the poster below me, his voice is actually masculine. Not incredibly deep, but you can definitely tell that it is a voice of a male. He also talks very soft, as if he's really shy. He has an Australian accent. I saw an interview of him speaking in his native language, to one of his original countries reporters, but he speaks english. As for the transsexual comments, I doubt that it's even crossed his mind. He can't help that he looks this way, and I truly believe that he's comfortable in his own skin.

this micro-bio is a great idea!

i wonder what that dude's voice sounds like or if he has had surgery or taken female hormones...

anyway, watching the video, i must say I have never seen such a varied selection of male models on the runway. models with enormous beards, models with coke bottle, harry potter glasses.. i watched the whole thing just to see who would come out next. a great selection of designs, some of them ludicrous of course, but some outfits looked really nice. the 3d stuff was just silly. loved the turkish bath scene in the background, nice touch.

OMG It seems the men have taken over the fashion world. But let me tell you what a body.

I did not mean that to be a factual statement.

I have talked with Andrej before via Facebook before he was famous. He is an incredibly nice guy. I am referring to Andrej as male because I asked him what his preference was and at this time it is 'male'. I KNEW he would be famous one day. He is AWESOME!

"Edit your micro-bio"--I think not!

Doesn't shock me. At 14 years old a modeling agency had me cut off my hair to present my pictures as a teen boy. It sickened me. The industry has always favored androgony.

Wow, Gaultier had every cliche on display there. Even to the overalls with the dangling strap. It was a yawn to watch the whole clip.

The man has a beautiful face...no doubt about it. My reaction to the fashion show is the same when I view most fashion shows...for men's wear or women's wear. The models all look too thin and unhealthy and the clothes are laughable. Could you honestly see your husband, father, son or brother wearing any of this to work, school or a party(well maybe a costume party). Full disclosure, I only made it through half of the video before I had to stop watching. High fashion has no standards of usability anymore.

Why are we saying he is androgenous? He is a transvestite, he wears women's clothes in his down time, not just for work. He is simply gorgeous! Probably the most feminine transvestite I've ever seen!

Androgynous describes the fact that he can appear as either male or female equally well.
I agree with the yummy part though.

Hi, you can't call someone a transvestite (which is actually an offensive term these days) without him telling you. You can only assume he is a cross dresser but he also might be androgynous or transsexual.

I have a better idea -- just call him Andrej -- I am sure thats what he answers to most often. All these other labels just make a web of confusion. Maybe I am weird but I think he is very masculine no matter what he is wearing. I don't see him as "feminine", I just see Andrej.
I think the United States is about to undergo a "grass eaters" movement like they have had in Japan for about 10 yrs -- i think the men are more masculine because they aren't being a testosterone stereotype, even though the older generations often label by by their own labels. I know lots of "androgenous" "trendies" and a they are comfortable with themselves -- and I don't know why that shouldn't be a model for masculinity, and feminity. Growing arugula is sexy, just not to people that think day traders are sexy.

With the continued disruption of the human genome by endocrine disrupting chemicals, better get used to androgyny. The "forced feminization" happens in the womb.

The guy looks like a woman period. This demasculanisation of men is becoming disturbing. I mean would you all want to look at a female model with a buzz cut and a mustache?
08:51 AM on 01/05/2011
I bet people used to be just as shocked at the "masculisation of women" when Marlene Dietrich appeared in tux and top-hat... oh dear me, whatever is the world coming to?

Annie Lennox did the buzz cut years ago, and no one looks good in a mustache, PERIOD.

Grace Jones is the epitome of Androgyny and is still around performing as her androgyny self. She was born that way. Her face is very very male/female in structure. Plus her physical body is very androgynous. It is all in the biology. Well, I guess I better take some of that back, I remember her wearing those exaggerated man's clothes for a long time, along with a severe buzz cut hairdooo.

In any case, I still love grace, David Bowie and the rest of the musical icons and inspirations of the 70s/80s.
