Kicking off the 2011 ATP World Tour, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal played perhaps the most unique round of tennis ever, in the waters outside of Doha, Qatar.

The tennis stars faced off on a floating court in Doha Bay Sunday, just ahead of the first tournament of the year, the Qatar Open. The water-laden match aimed to promote the event.

World No. 1, Nadal, said the experience experience was fantastic. "For the past three years we have done a few different things, and this one was a very nice experience. It's going to be a very exciting season for me, I think. I would love to play against Roger a few more times this year, because when we play each other it's in the final," he said.

The match added to a number of odd venues in which the two modern greats have played, including a half clay, half grass match they played in 2007.

In a world of silly things, this exhibition is one of the silliest things I've seen.

These two are great for tennis. You couldn't find two more humble guys. I hope they are around for a long time. And, I hope Roger can win another slam! Rafa is so good!

We need an American at the top of the Men's standings again, between these two great players, I can't pick one to root for, but I do like to watch them play.

How many times have I read about Nadal complaining that the tennis schedule is too long and grueling?

Roger complained about it, too, but they both had charitable exhibitions in December. I guess the point of their concerns is that the season should have a longer break at year end and the players - not the ATP - should be able to decide how to spend that time.

The complaints I heard were concerning injuries to Nadal's knees.
