9 Totally Unexpected Game Show Moments (VIDEOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 01/05/11 09:20 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

Game shows are a great place to see skill at work, but let's face it: half the reason we watch is for the possibility of seeing a superhuman feat of knowledge or a superhuman trainwreck on display. It's those unexpected or surprising answers given by contestants that really add flavor to a show -- whether it's solving a puzzle with only one clue or giving a response that seems like such a non-sequitur we wonder whether they know they're on television. Here are nine such examples of contestant responses that must be seen to be believed. Vote for the most surprising!

I have tried to find the clip of Hollywood Squares that got Bob Gothwait kicked off.

Host: "What does Michael Jackson do for fun."

BG: "He blows Bubbles."

My favorite is the one where the host asks "What was the stupidest thing your husband ever said?" and the husband answers " ...when he said "I' love the tea party"

Priceless!!

My guess is that the Newlywed Game gal thinks the last decade began in 2001.

The last decade DID begin in 2001. As well as this century and this millennium.

Last decade...Pretty sure that would've been 2000, the current decade started 1/1/ 2011
06:57 PM on 01/05/2011
No, a decade is ANY 10 year period. They can start at any time. There's no rule that you have to start counting from Day 1, Year 1. The decade we call "The 1970s", for example, starts in 1970, not 1971 as the pedantics would have it. If you want to refer to "the 197th decade in the Common Era", then yeah, THAT starts in 1971. But the 10 year span we refer to as the "the 1970s" starts in 1970. And, of course, "the Al Franken Decade" was from 1980 to 1989. But everyone knows that.

(of course, I guess I could just go inside and the soup would be even BETTER)

Many years ago I read an article in the paper about a local man who was a contestant on Wheel of Fortune. He explained all the behind-the-scenes stuff we never get to hear about. And he also said before the show he was given a sheet of answers for that night's episode. On the sheet there were a hundred or so answers, but tonight's answers would be used from that list. He said it was done that way to give everyone a sporting chance. I think this lady must have had a photographic memory.

What, not the moment when Gene Rayburn - on 'match Game 74' accidentally uses a word that semi-rhymes with "dimples" regarding a contestant?

"could-be-correct-but-isn't" is not correct.  He just guessed P and it wasn't the first letter so it couldn't have been pill pushers.

Anyone else confused about the last wheel of fortune one?  I thought the bonus round was the only round you could just blurt out answers until you get it.  Since when can someone just guess the puzzle as many times as possible in 3 seconds?

The toss-ups. I think that's what they're called?
