Amateur Bullfighting Event Leaves Dozens Injured

Nearly 50 would-be matadors were badly injured in an amateur bullfighting event in Colombia, RTE is reporting.

Known as Corralejas, the annual six-day event draws hundreds of aspiring bullfighters to the northern province of Sucre each January. The rowdy festival is described by locals as an explosive and sometimes lethal mixture of alcohol, music, violence and machismo.

Unlike traditional bullfights, the only certain survivors of Corralejas are the bulls themselves, as it is reportedly forbidden to kill the animals, and an average of 20 participants die each year.
