Dead Birds Fall Onto Letterman's Set During Monologue (VIDEO)

First Posted: 01/05/11 12:57 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

Tuesday night on "The Late Show," David Letterman jumped on the falling dead birds mystery that's been gripping the nation since the new year began.

At the top of his monologue, dozens of fake, dead blackbirds seemed to fall from the sky onto Letterman's set. This was all the set-up he needed to take one of his coveted jabs at Obama's vacation habits:

"On midnight on New Year's Eve, thousands of birds fell dead right out of the sky. Where was Obama? Vacationing in Hawaii, that's where he was!"

Score! For the most part that was the funniest Letterman monologue in a long time. Every crack worked except for one (guess).

I'm still chuckling.

I still love Letterman.

It wasnt hilarious but you have to admit the rethugs have blamed everything else on Obama. Obama was there doing everything he could to handle the BP oil spill and as he was there and meeting with Jindal, Jindal went public saying that the President wasnt helping just a few hours after talking with the president. I could hear the GOP trying to blast Obama for taking a well needed vacation just because he did it while some birds fell out of the sky. I've heard reports of how Obama has taken more vacation time than any other Prez. It is complete and utter bu//$**t. George W. spent 977 days on vacation. 487 days at Camp David and 490 at his ranch. That is over 2 2/3 years on vacation. So even though Letterman wasn't hilarious, I appreciated his humor. BTW, the only person I know who has had that much time off from work is unemployed and looking for a job.

He's telling more dead bird jokes tonight, so apparently he still thinks it's funny, even if nobody else in the world does. What a jerk. His career should be so over.

When you see how the birds might have died it is not so funny

dying of birds wasn't funny and neither is Letterman - time for him to go meet Larry King for breakfast everyday

Found a related link that said: To the direct reason for Wheeler’s murder, this report says, was this past week’s transport of Iraqi Phosgene poisonous gas aboard a US Air Force KC-767 tanker aircraft from Little Rock Air Force Base enroute to Afghanistan that shortly after takeoff had a ‘critical malfunction’ of its aerial spraying computer directed command and control system over central Arkansas causing the deaths of thousands of red-wing blackbirds. read more www.whatdoesitmean.com/index1435.htm"

So that means we actually DID find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq! But when we actually found it, we had to keep it a secret. Wait a minute, that means that the Bush administration would rather have looked foolish for not finding weapons of Mass Destruction (or at least letting the rest of the country think they did not) when it actually they DID find weapons of mass destruction but they had to keep it a secret from Putin (and thus the American people too).. I wonder if Bush could have just said to the American people, "look can you keep a secret? I did find weapons of Mass destruction in Iraq but just do not tell Putin"

Yet, another low for you Mr. Letterman (and this comment is coming from a fan that's quickly becoming less fanatic by the second.) New writers......please!

Absolutely nothing funny about this. What were he and his writers thinking?
