11 New Tablets You've Probably Never Heard Of From CES 2011 (PHOTOS)

2010 was declared the "year of the tablet," but the plethora of new tablets on display at this week's Consumer Electronics Show, many running Google's Android operating system, suggests 2011 may well earn that distinction as well.

In addition to the big-name tablets unveiled over the past few months by the likes of Samsung and Research In Motion, there were also host of never-before-seen tablet devices at CES 2011, some sporting new features like slide-out keyboards, stunningly iPad-like designs, and more.

We've put together a slideshow of 11 tablets that you've probably never heard of that were shown off at CES 2011.

These are ALL losers compared to iPad. (I'm still waiting for the iPad2 with a 13-inch or greater screen, though.) The Lenovo bunch (really scaled down laptops that rotate funny) really do bring into question the capability of their designers and engineers to "think" (the slogan of the company they bought the line from). What good is a tablet if it weighs about the same as a laptop?

Hey look, we made laptops without keyboards, eh? Wow, good for you!

I was truly impressed with the breadth of tablets to choose from. Up till this show and article I was seeing maybe two or three to pick from. It is the year of the tablet.

More rip-offs of Apple.
01:10 PM on 01/08/2011
I think that it's a good thing that companies are trying to come up with their own tablets - it's good for consumers, at least. If we were sticklers as to where Apple came up with the idea of the IPad, we would have to say that it's a rip-off of the Windows tablets. The truth is that Apple took a concept that already existed and made it work for consumers; good for them, and for us. So I see no reason why it shouldn't be a good thing that other companies are doing the same. I for one am glad that there are more pad devices, even though I don't plan on buying one anytime soon.

Apple did NOT make the first tablet. NOTHING Apple has done has been original. They just do better marketing of their rip-offs than anyone else.

On the contrary, APPLE invented the personal computer, and on initial attempts to sell it to big companies, they were laughed at and told that NOBODY would want or need a personal computer. Look who's laughing now, apple is the second most valuable company in the world AND personal computers have become a staple in the modern lifestyle. Do a little research before unilaterally dismissing Apple. They have had their shortcomings to be sure, but they are still innovators.

The tablets with the folding mechanism of a keyboard will set a new standard. Contrary to what apple fanboys will tell you, the Keyboard isn't going anywhere and will continue to be the standard device for the input of data. Manufactures that are able to exploit this feature will do well,

I've said it before and I will say it again, Apple is no longer a tech company but rather a marketing company of tech products.

I am especially intrigued by the dual OS tablets, Lenovo's tablet is supposed to run Android OS and when the keyboard is attached it runs windows 7.

Very interesting, a lot of good can come of CES this year. Like the ones with a fold up keyboard.

I especially like the ones that have a fold-over keyboard. A lot of iPad users have a protective case for their iPad. Why not have the protective case also serve as a keyboard, as a couple of tablets here seem to be doing. Can not underestimate the keyboard as a control/content creation tool. These keyboards don't appear to have any tactile feedback, but they're certainly better than trying to type on the display, and view your game/spreadsheet at the same time.

The tablet PC market has been poised for a boom for years.
What were all these companies doing then and what are they inventing now...NOTHING.
They all are merely copying Apple and that is very sad.

Yes because in your mind Apple created everything and never copies anything.

Apple admits when they take an existing idea and put their own spin on it. And they usually do it BETTER. Like when they admitted that they took Microsoft's fast user switching concept from Windows XP and put their own "spin" on it with the spinning cube effect. Nobody with memory of tech history can claim that apple invented the tablet PC, but you have to admit, apple took the concept and made it really work. I have a friend who actually had one of the first tablet PCs, he even let my play around with it a bit. I have to say...it SUCKED! It ran a slightly modified Windows XP, which was admittedly a good, strong OS, not without its shortcomings, but better than anything MS had put out before or since up until Windows 7. However Windows was just not designed for touch interfaces and only added a few barely useful OS add-ons to take advantage of a stylus input. "Oh look at me! I can write handwritten notes on my tablet PC!" Yep, and thats about all that investment was really "good" for, except the handwriting function was clunky, temperamental and made your handwriting barely legible.

The truth is, Apple once again took an existing product and made it WAAAAYYYY better. Which is really all they can do when there are so many companies these days clamoring to invent the next big tech thing, and most of their attempts fall flat on their faces.

They are riding the hype that is the tablet.

Samsung and others are showing us that the tablet can be much more than what Apple has given us, too.

Which is awesome. But never forget that, without Apple exploding the market with the iPad, Samsung a d the others wouldn't really have a customer base to show. People can say what they like about Apple and the iPad, but no one can deny that they practically created the market that these new tabs are flooding into (IIRC iPad sold more units in the first month or two than all tablets had combined in all of 2009). That's why so many of them look more or less like the iPad -- sincerest form of flattery and all that.

Funny things about the tablet fad the first thing new tablet owners are getting is a keyboard dock! You might has well get a laptop you get better specs for the same price more or less!

Well, to be accurate, some vendors are trying to sell you a dock.  Its not clear exactly what percentage of owners care - but I'd guess very few.

The dock is inferior to the laptop, ergonomically as well. Samsung's above device is a step in the right direction.
