Animals show fear and experience pain in the slaughtering process. That in itself tells us that slaughter is cruel and stupid. To me, this show is just one more mile in America's journey down the crapper.

Having watched the 1st episode I am an instant fan. I found it interesting and educational the differences between the 2-a-week slaughtered cows from one organic farm VS over 300-400 slaughtered cows a DAY at an industrial farm for fast food and super market meats, and the difference in quality of hanging a carcass for 4 weeks with the organic farm VS only 24 hours at the industrial.

I found that I am still and always will be a meat eater, BUT am willing to pay more for meat where the animals can have happy natural grazing lives over the horrible conditions in which they exist at industrial farms. Looking forward to the next episode.

My husband and I operate a 15 acre farm. We raise pastured chickens, pastured pork, and beef. . Our animals have a great life out on the pasture and if slaughtered, one bad day. I hope this show shows responsible and kind farmers that raise their animals in a humane and natural manner.

I just found episodes from this show posted on YouTube. The premise of the show is a group of young people with varying attitudes towards eating meat, from vegan to junk food junkie, following different phases of meat production, and the setting is a small diversified farm in Devon that produces pastured beef, pork, lamb and chickens. I've only watched part of the first episode, but other methods of raising animals for food are discussed. It's less of a "how to" program than I thought it would be, and more of a "reality show," how-will-these-six-individuals-with-their-diverse-philosophies-deal-this-issue type of thing.

Thank you for raising your animals the way they should be raised. I have been so upset with factory farms in this country that I became a vegetarian for a while (my husband remained a meat lover). When I found a nearby farm that raises its beef on pasture, I began purchasing my beef from them. While I am still distressed about killing animals for food, I am determined to patronize farmers who respect their animals. I am currently searching for nearby farms that pasture chickens and pigs and will buy meat from them as well.

Tribes had hunters and gathers because both foods are important and some people could not hunt and kill. Nothing has changed.

I actually think this a really good idea. People today are so disconnected with their food they don't know a simple process that has been used for hundreds of years. Maybe it can help with people buying their meat from local farmers that raise their cattle and whatever other animals that are well cared for and have less of an impact environment. Tastes better too!

I don't think eating meet is strange. Animals eat other animals. What I think is strange is dairy. We drink another animals fluid meant for their young. I think we are the only species that does that!!! I do love my cheese and yogurt though!

Sometimes people give cats milk and dogs ice cream.

Humans also drink beer and use duct tape.

My wish is that a real alternative to most if not all of the animal products are able to be synthesized. I eat meat, but it's not something I need if there were alternatives. I'm not talking about unrecognizable soy-ternatives. I'm talking real alternatives - because let's all just be honest for a second - without alternatives that taste and look like the 'real' thing the majority of consumers will not switch - including myself.

The day is coming when animals are not killed for human consumption - hopefully sooner rather than later and instead of people judging others for eating meat - come up with some real alternatives.

Oh, yes. Let's live in a synthesized universe. That's such a wonderful prospect, and I'm sure that day is right around the corner.

In case my sarcasm wasn't obvious, which it probably wasn't to someone capable of writing what you just wrote, I'm rolling my eyes here.

Hmm .. well we already have quite a few synthesized things. Ever look at the "honey" from KFC? Perhaps a little self-education might be in order for you before you embarrass yourself with another post where you are talking about things you obviously know nothing about.

Yes I think I like that. Besides everything used to sustain live animals for food is expensive in every way.

sounds like a great idea. we should educate ourselves to where our food comes from. hopefully, it will continue the trend away from factory farming, which is spreading disease (e.coli) and, quite frankly, producing meat not as tasty as grass-fed; once you go grass-fed, you don't go back; yum! oh, and not lets forget the pollution...etc from the factory farms. yuck.

When the heart and the hand are hardened by arrogance and self-superiority, the individual is left blind to the plight of its victims. The day will come when no animal is sacrificed on the altar of carnivorous bloodlust and people will look back with revulsion and ask themselves - "why did they slaughter animals for food when it was not necessary for survival?"

We are far closer to animals than we think - the proof is here in this blog that some of us humans are indeed the worst of the animals. The only reason to slaughter animals today is because you like to do it or you simply don't care and both cases are implicitly pitiable. Enjoy your meat, your hands are stained with blood that can be removed but your heart is damaged in ways you probably don't even fathom. Enjoy the blood and the death. I'm sure I could not.

Meanwhile, you wear shoes made from petroleum. Gee, no animal ever die for that, right?

Enjoy your sanctimoniousness. I'm sure I could not.

Humans will still be eating meat when vegans are a dimly-remembered cult like the theosophists or followers of the Graham Diet.

Is it sanctimoniousness to show compassion and empathy towards animals?

That, my friend, is a rhetorical question.
05:36 PM on 01/10/2011
why not glamorize where the meat really comes from? instead of making it seem "cool" to kill it & grill it - show us where it all REALLY comes from....factory farms. why continue the disillusionment?

I would venture to say that the vast majority of meat consumed in the USA does.

Starring Sarah Palin? She's available, since her horrible show wasn't renewed. And we know how she loves the money that comes with her "celebrity."

I think it's a reference to her news interview where there were turkeys being slaughtered in the background.
07:24 PM on 01/10/2011
I hadn't thought of the turkey thing, but that works, too. The proposed title of the new show seems to fit her expressed preferences.

.this would almost be a reason for me to get cable back.....i think it's high time we disavow ourselves of the notion that meat just comes in plastic shrink wrap....if something died for us to eat...why can't we acknowledge that?
12:00 PM on 01/10/2011
Isn't it sad that we need a show on this to reeducate people about where their food comes from? Its as if chicken nuggets, hamburgers and chicken drumsticks grow off a tree or a magical elf drops them off in your neighborhood supermarket. Should we feel guilty for eating meat? I don't think so. But that's up to you and what you want to do. But I do feel guilty that we've industrialized raising animals for food in such a way that pollutes our earth, treats animals like trash, and sold to us in such poor quality and filler that it doesn't even taste like meat anymore.

I saw my grandma and mom kill chickens by hand. I have more respect from where meat comes from. We had holidays where meat was used as an offering to our ancestors. It wasn't just something you buy in McDonalds and that you could care less about. If you can start with a general level of respect then you can make whatever choice you want. But I know want to eat meat and I my meat to come from a well treated animal. It also means tastier meat!
