Polaroid, Lady Gaga Reinvent Polaroid At CES (VIDEO)

Polaroid and Lady Gaga teamed up yesterday to release Polaroid's reinvented product line: Grey Label.

The instant film company's new Grey Label product line might be considered a little out there, especially the GL20 Camera Glasses, which are particularly "Gaga-esque."

The glasses, described by Polaroid as "merging fashion with technology," can not only capture images, but have two mini-LCD screens that allow wearer to display their photos. As Polaroid says, "Only Lady Gaga could create a hybrid that's part fashion statement, part revolutionary technology and part tool for self-expression."

Also in the Grey Line is the GL30 Instant Digital Camera, which re-imagine's the company's classic instant legacy by combing physical and digital cameras. While the GL30 takes pictures like a standard digital camera, it also allows for photographers to print on the spot.

Polaroid also released the GL10 Instant Mobile Printer, a light-weight and quick instant printer.

I feel like this misses the point. A lot of the charm in the look of various types of instant film was within the process of the film itself. It was unpredictable, in a way. I'm not one of those pro-film grumps who blindly dislikes everything digital, and I'm trying not to be simply nostalgic. I am just skeptical.
That said, I'm excited to see what they look like.

So let me get this right, she's gone from meat dresses and gay rights to designing sun glass cameras for polaroid? Yeh, she's real serious.

The only market left for the original Polaroid squeegee film is police work. Photos were inadmissible as evidence back in the '90's when Photoshop hit. The old Polaroid print process has no negative. It's a one-off, a direct chemical print that's impossible to counterfeit.

I miss instant cameras. I used to use them as a stylist to show dressers how to put a garment on a model or if I wasn't doing the makeup - it was a great way to show an image of the test model. Digital is great but being able to snap and pin was way more useful than snap, walk over to the printer, print, walk back ....lol Anyway, I hope the execution is as cool as the idea to reinvent the instant.

More popular music artists could help with the Progressive agenda if they were more political. It nothing like the sixties. Now its all money, money, money.

I'm actually hoping for its success. It's good to see an ailing American company attempt to reinvent itself. I'm not sure it's going to work, but I like the effort.

"Polaroid" is just a generic re-labelled chinese cr*p brand now...like Bell+Howell and many other companies that went under since the 80's.

Yup.
I actually worked on developing some of these product ideas,
at Polaroid, almost 10 years ago. (I was there when they first went Chapter 11 bankrupt)

So, it is tempting to get excited and hopeful for the 'old team'...though reality is that
the org. was stripped down to nothing and the brand name sold for licensing.
