Jan Brewer, Arizona Governor, 'Heartbroken' By Tucson Shooting

Jan Brewer

PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she's heartbroken by the shooting of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and others in Tucson and says the whole state is saddened.

The Republican governor was at the state Capitol on Saturday working with aides to prepare for her annual address to the Legislature next week when they received word of the shooting.

Brewer says the speech preparations stopped, and she later addressed reporters after speaking with President Barack Obama by telephone.

Brewer says she anticipates that security arrangements for public officials could be tightened as a result of the shooting. Spokesman Paul Senseman says arrangements for Monday's State of the State will be reviewed.

Enough of people calling this shooter evil and cowardly & both sides pointing fingers at each other. I work with medical providers for the mentally ill population in Arizona and while I dont dismiss the shooter's actions, Gov Janet Brewer drastically cut services for the mentally ill population & illegally placed the Arnold vs Sarn lawsuit on hold, tried to get people on Court Order Treatment off it (if NT19), got rid of state monitoring to ensure that services where being competently carried out, cut case management services for all NT19 patients (including those on COT) & more. The fact that his college said that he could return to classes if he had doctor's note saying he wasnt a danger to himself or others is indicative that he was possibly strongly considered for COT. Those are actually the magic words for two out of the four reasons why people are placed on Court Ordered Treatment. There were other places in the budget to make cuts without putting the Arizona population at risk. Also an overwhelming majority of people placed on COT don't want to be mandated in the the first place and in Pima county it's a lot harder to get people placed on COT with services they desperately need and deserve because they have significantly less funding than Maricopa County. I strongly encourage everyone to look up the Arnold vs Sarn lawsuit to fully educate themselves and pray news media outlets get ahold of this so behavioral health services

If she's so heart broken she would do something about the gun laws in AZ, stop initiating controversial laws that divide people; put back the cuts she made to the health care system that help those who needed it most -- especially transplant patients ( I understand about three people have died because she cut them off) and do something more meaningful and less controversial for her state. That how heart broken she needs to be.

Your state is in ruins. Job well done Brewer.

How does a person like her get elected? What's good about that state in 2011?

How can a woman without a heart be "heartbroken?" How about the transplant nullifications?

ISN'T THE GOVERNOR THE ONE WHO SIGNED THE LAW SO THAT NUTS COULD GET A GUN ETC.

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you that someone with mental issues has gone and done something I and my ilk have been nudge-nudge-wink-winking at for the last two years.

Can we hear from someone - anyone - who doesn't have a canned response?

Heart? Yeah, that's a good one Jan.
No one with a true heart would allow people to die a slow death due to
refusal to help those in need of transplants.
Heart? Really?
Brewer's heart is as shriveled as her policies.
