As the AFP is reporting, Katrina Hodge was named Miss England last January. While the British media has already dubbed her "Combat Barbie," the 24-year-old Hodge -- who has already served in Iraq -- insists she's happy to be re-joining the British ranks.

"At the end of the day, it's my job. If that's what I've got to do, then that's what I've got to do," she told the AFP. "It's hard to be excited about going to Afghanistan but it's the reality of our job. Our job is be out there, protecting our country."

Corporal Hodge, from Brighton, reportedly joined the forces as a 17-year-old and served with 1st Battalion, Royal Anglian Regiment, in Iraq for seven months before becoming a beauty queen. She married her husband, a fellow soldier named Neil, in a top-secret Sri Lanka ceremony last June.

Currently in training for deployment, Hodge has called her re-enlisting a "culture shock." She went on to note, "I'm not going to lie, it was hard to come back. It's definitely a change of lifestyle from having your hair and make-up done every day to being in your combats and having your hair scraped back."

A former lingerie model, Hodge has written a new book, Combat to Catwalk, about her experiences, due to hit shelves on April 4.

When she will be in Afghanistan she should dress and behave according to the prevailing customs of Afghanistan to show respect.

The huge eye lashes should go down, they may be in the way to see properly.

I don't have to believe your "-ism".

Pageant queens tend to be conservative. The notion of women depending on good looks to win approval is a conservative trait. Cons also like guns and violence more than liberals. Not questioning authority is also a con trait.

So let me get this straight. Conservatives just got admonished for a week straight about "vitriolic rhetoric" in which authority was constantly and inappropriately questioned (the current administration), and now you say that "not questioning authority is also a con trait."

Perfect. Got it.

Miss England and a decorated Lance Corporal combat veteran? Kate Middleton has nothing on her. Prince William proposed to the wrong woman.

Why is she a pin-head? Some people want to serve their country...are we all pin-heads?

Did you read the article?...her unit is going to or already is in Afghanistan. She was a former member of the RA, served in IRAQ....got out...married a current RA member, and decided to go back in.

BTW, it's pin-up girl vice "pin-girl".

Umm can I correct you she was in the RAR (Royal Anglian Regiment) not the RA (Royal Artillery) some people would get upset by that error.
03:04 PM on 01/14/2011
What do you mean "For what"?
It's her job. She is a member of the Armed Forces -- a corporal in the Royal Anglian regiment, decorated for bravery (at age 18) during her previous tour in Iraq. She's just going back to work.

Since she has already served in Iraq, I'd say she's FAR from clueless as to what she is in for. Just because you disagree with her choice is no reason to denigrate it.

Perhaps for a sequel, Catwalk to Combat :)

Is Afghanistan threatening Britain? Protect your country.....from what?
07:33 PM on 01/11/2011
Uhh hello! For a matter of fact, there aren't just Americans fighting against "terrorism" so to speak! We have other countries making the sacrifice as well, get a life.

Sure but why is Britain defending itself in Afghanistan, the Taliban never attacked them, nor did Al Qaeda. It seems to me that unless you have a legitimate reason for going to war agains some one else, like having been attacked, that it is wrong to go and fight with them. Is Britain tied to our Apron Strings like we are to Israels?
