Books That Literary Bookworms Wouldn't Like (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 01/11/11 09:47 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

Hunting, hockey, skating ... all activities that literary bookworms would hate. But what about books about these topics? Would a bookworm like to read about, hmm, let's see ... taxidermy? Maybe not.

With that in mind, we gathered together some books about these weird topics. From dead deer to moves on ice, here are books that literary bookworms will not like. What books would you add to the list? Let us know in the comments section below.

Let's Obviate Obfuscation!

Seems a little too purposefully snarky toward hunters & the NASCAR set, to me.

I could add a few to this list:

#1 The DaVinci Code (did that guy have a fantastic agent, or what???)
and a few "classics" like Jude the Obscure, Emma, (just about anything from the Victorian era, in my opinion).

A couple of these could possibly inspire a story or two...

I am wondering why the Steig Larsson books arent on here. IMO They're awful, full of mistakes and boring, I really dont know why WOMEN seem to like them so much. I guess i just dont get it, they make all the best seller lists...

It's intellectual reading; full of plot twists and turns. The Steig Larsson books have sold in the millions; the others in here have sold in the hundreds. See the difference?

Three additions to this list: Going Rogue, Anything by Beck, and the Twilight Series

All of them are a pox upon literate Americans.

hold on, hold on.  I beg to differ on the Twilight Series.

Seriously, it's my one teeny tiny vice.  I am hooked.

Please... don't tell anyone.  ;-)

How about Chilton's auto manuals? Since most of these are how-to's.

The narrowly focused history books (like the one on Rugby) have limited interest, but are more valuable if you are interested. I'm reading a book right now called 'Replay', on the history of video games, that's fascinating.

When I think of bad literature, I think of Grisham and Tom Clancy. Pulp novels.

"Literary book worms" sounds like something Sarah Palin would call people who don't hunt.

I think SP using big words like "literary" is highly unlikely.

I don't think HuffPost cares very much about the books page...There are an awful lot of photo slide-shows for a page devoted to the written word. I come here nearly everyday hoping for something, anything to spark a real debate or bring something really great to light. The bloggers give some great stuff, but the features and articles leave something to be desired.

I wouldn't want to read a book on bookworms.

Why all the hate on hunting? Why cant someone be a literary buff and an outdoorsman?

I don't hunt. My father never took me hunting, so I never learned how. Nevertheless, I'm okay with hunters and hunting despite the fact that shooting something myself isn't something I yearn to do. I always hope, however, that one of my friends who does hunt will toss even a small amount of deer sausage my way. I am amused by hunter friends who tell me that there aren't any deer in Pennsylvania anymore, when what they really mean is that there aren't any deer withing 1-2 miles of where they parked their cars. The farther away that you shoot it; the farther you have to drag the carcass. You can enjoy Heminway and be an outdoorsman. See "Big Two-Hearted River I and II."
