Art Exchange Allows Patrons To Buy Shares In Major Artworks

Even though the feeling in the art market right now is one of renewed hope and increased sale prices, the thought of purchasing a significant piece of art can be daunting (and immensely wallet-thinning) for most. Enter a whole new system of "owning" art - Art Exchange. Via the Paris-based website, art lovers and patrons can buy shares of work hung in galleries, following any other stock exchange model. Explained further in the video below, The Art Newspaper also reported back in December 2010 that "participating galleries are currently selling works valued at €100,000 or more, although the exchange intends to lower this figure once the company is established." The Exchange is now open, or didn't you hear the bell?
