First Posted: 01/12/11 08:05 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

Did you know that this week is National Pizza Week? While Denver may not be New York or Chicago, we do have a handful of exceptional pizza places. And it's not all about the pizza; it's about the atmosphere and the non-pizza options when you're not feeling a pie. So, in the midst of Pizza Week, here are our favorite spots to grab a slice and then some.

Let us know what you think of our picks, and tell which places we left off in the comments below.

Ernie's Bar & Pizza
1 of 7
Ernie's is great for classic, traditional pizzas. With a thin, chewy crust and fresh tomato sauce, this pizza satisfies cravings without having to go for generic delivery pizza. The pepperoni with red onions has just enough toppings to cover the whole thing without taking away from cheesy goodness of the fresh house mozzarella. If you want something a little more unusual, go for the rock shrimp, capers, arugula, red onion and olives. What really sets Ernie's apart, though, is the happy hour. Stop by from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm or 10:00 pm-12:00 am get daily drink specials (the bar has 30 American beers on tap) and half-off select apps and sandwiches. To add to the fun, grab a spot at a pool table or a skee ball machine.

I kind of wonder if the author actually came to Denver and ate pizza, given that none of the most popular pizza spots in town are listed. I would definitely add:

Beau Jo's (hands-down Colorado's best and most unique pizzas)
Mellow Mushroom
Denver Pizza Co.
Two-Fisted Mario's

Ya'll come to Cripple Creek! (SW of Colo Spgs, one of the gaming towns)
We don't have many restaurants outside of the casinos.
But we have Ralf's, The Creek, and Parrot Dice Grill, each with really good pizza!
Plus a Gaelic grill with great pizza in nearby Divide!
Go figure!

I like Beaux Joes. I may have the spelling wrong but it's where my nieces and nephew have me take them every time I come visit them.

Love Virgillios. Also, The Oven (same Belmar area) and Basil Doc's pizza. Cheapest trip to NYC ever.

Bonnie Brae is OK, but it is too much like pizza by and for white people.
