Rocky Mountain National Park Rescue: Skier Saved After Falling 900 Feet

Rangers at Rocky Mountain National Park rescued a backcountry skier after he fell 900 feet.

According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, park rangers received a call at 1:00 PM on Wednesday reporting that a 55-year-old man from Chicago took what was referred to as a "significant tumble/sliding fall." According to the AP, the report came via cell phone.

The incident took place near the east face of Flattop Mountain.

According to KMGH in Denver, the rescue took place at about 10,600 feet, and involved 11 park staff.

The skier, whose name was not released, was transported to the Estes Park Medical Center ambulance on Wednesday evening, and then flown by helicopter to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.
