Prince Harry To Cross North Pole With Disabled Veterans

Prince Harry North Pole

01/12/11 06:01 AM ET   AP

LONDON — Prince Harry is hoping to join a group of disabled military veterans as they try to ski to the North Pole.

The team is due to begin a four-week, 200 mile (320 kilometer) trek from Siberia across the polar ice cap in March in aid of the charity Walking with the Wounded.

Harry is patron of the charity, which helps servicemen and women who have been seriously hurt or lost limbs.

Prince Harry's office at St. James' Palace said Wednesday that 26-year-old Harry "would love to join the expedition" for part of the journey.

Harry, who is third in line to the throne, is training to be an Apache helicopter pilot in the army air corps. The palace says a decision on his participation would depend on his training schedule.

Of course there will be a small "army" of Land Rovers following behind him with every imaginable thing he could possible need during this trek. But, it's a nice idea anyway.

Anyone else think Prince Harry looks a lot like Seth Rogan, but without the glasses?

I can’t decide who Harry looks like – he really does not look too much like either parent. I do think he’s a bit better looking than his brother, though.

I've seen (yes with my own eyes) Harry with disabled veterans, these are obviously people he regards as comrades and friends....and I'm a cynic....

Prince Harry's longest trek will be towards sobriety and learning that the Nazis were actually bad people.

What an idiotic thing to say .... it's like saying " All I know about Harry is what I once read in a headline' ..

I have a feeling that as an American, if I dressed up in a KKK outfit I would be judged for it for life. And rightfully so.

Perhaps your longest trek will be grade 10 to a high school diploma.

He is not, nor has ever been, a real soldier or apache helicopter pilot because he's royalty. I'm sure his trek up the North Pole will be similarly as well guarded with secret service, etc.

If this guy wants to do something brave for his country and humanity he'll give up all the vast resources of wealth his family has been hording over the last few hundred years.

Please...if you were uber wealthy, would you give up your riches to stress a point?? Or would you use your celebrity to bring attenion to causes....like most consciencious wealthy people do..........

Bring attention to causes? What else does he have to do? He doesn't have a job. No one in his family has a job, and they never will. A fully able bodied person skiing part of way to the North Pole while disabled veterans ski the whole way is hardly generous. Not to mention that the policies of "his" country disabled those veterans in the first place. But that's fine, you go ahead and apologize for the uber wealthy.

Cynic.
Harry was deployed with the Blues and Royals to Helmand, Afghanistan in 2008. He served at a forward operating base until his presence there was leaked by the Australian media. He was ordered to leave his own men and return to the UK. He bitterly blames the media for that.
Harry is currently training to fly Apaches at The School of Army Aviation in Hampshire, UK. After training he will no doubt return to Afghanistan.

Harry and his brother were born into a cage, a gilded one of course, but its still a cage.
He could easily live the life of the idle rich, but both he and his brother have chosen to be on active service with the British military. Be as cynical as you like, but why make assumptions when the truth is a google away?

Vast, undeserved wealth, disparity in income and poverty will exist as long as people learn about how the world works based on what they read on Google.
09:40 AM on 01/16/2011
I know it's inappropriate, but Harry and William were both very cute recently and both lost it fairly rapidly. Harry already has fat face at 26. And William aargh! All I can say is he is lucky he is marrying now!
09:11 AM on 01/16/2011
Although not a fan of the royalty thing, and never getting the Diana worship, I think her boys are great. Too bad that security costs have to determine their being able to live as they choose. Harry doesn't photograph in still shots as well as William, but in live interview he seems a personable and very attractive young man. I agree that the contrast with the scions of American "royalty," such as the Bushes, is pretty sad.

Some folks just have to act like haters.......if there was an article saying Harry was donating a kidney, they would be screaming " well he has two"....SOME are so constipated with hatred, they miss the big picture in life.......but hey....everyone has a role to play and haters...well they just hate.........

Instead of having to rely on charity, why not give ex-service personnel a proper retirement and compensation for their injuries? There are many ex-servicemen (usually men), who are in prison now as a result of their conduct; many of them have shown signs of PTSD. Those who have lost limbs are being told they are `not disabled`(!!!)

Why doesn`t Harry donate some of his own money? He must have quite a bit of dosh sloshing around. I just hope the Apaches he flies have got foolproof GPS as the guy behind the controls doesn`t seem to have much of a grasp on matters geographical.

Having been with Chelsy Davy, the sky`s the limit!!!!! http://www.economicvoice.com/chelsy-davy-drops-a-dress-size-after-giving-up-burgers-and-junk-food/5008345#axzz1BCiYEdbK

"here are many ex-servicemen (usually men), who are in prison now as a result of their conduct; many of them have shown signs of PTSD. Those who have lost limbs are being told they are `not disabled`(!!!)"

Maybe in the US.
02:58 PM on 01/16/2011
definitely in the US. This is a hot button for me. We are not treating our disabled, yes, disabled veterans of these Middle Eastern wars well at all. I blame the Bush administration who seemed to believe that once a serviceman or woman could no longer serve, we should just throw them away to save money for the real game.
