Baby Bats Rescued After Being Orphaned By Australian Flood (VIDEO)

Baby Bats

130 baby bats orphaned by a flood off the Gold Coast of Australia were saved by the Australian Bat Clinic and Wildlife Trauma Centre in the past weeks.

Director Trish Wimberly worries that there is more to be concerned about than just the bad weather.

When visiting the Gold Coast bat sites, they found lots of 4-week-old babies on the ground, covered in maggots and fly eggs.

"They're coming down to feed on the ground. That makes them vulnerable. It's not a natural occurrence and shows there is trouble in the environment," Trish told The Daily Mail Reporter.

Wimberly goes on to note that, "Bats are a barometer to what is going on in the environment."

The babies will be kept hanging on clotheslines or in special intensive care units for about four weeks until they are ready and able to fly again.

Watch the following video, in which NBC's Nightly News displays photographs of the cute little creatures. After all, Brian Williams points out, "When was the last time you saw baby bats wrapped in tiny blankets?"

People ask why we are here? What is our purpose?

This is the answer. Caring for the weak and injured, those less fortunate than ourselves. Be they human, or any of the other creatures on this great ark we call the Earth.

So adorable! Thanks to all that help care for the many animals in need. I have fostered many kittens which require feeding every 2 to 3 hours when just days old. As a teacher, I would bring my rescues to work, and in amazement, I'd watch the worst behaving sudents become so quiet and caring. Each student would have a turn feeding and learning the proper way to foster the tiny babies. Animals are truly a gift.

Nature is amazing and beautiful.
We're so stupid that we use our "superior" intelligence to escape from it, to twist, bend, brake, mold until everything is pretty much artificial. I wish we could be happy with seeing and appreciating things and beings exactly as they are instead of always plotting ways to intervene.

Extraordinarily touching, such vulnerable creatures.

And like every infant creature the eyes ask: 'do you love me?'

These little guys look a lot cuter than their cousins do when they are swooping around inside my house in the middle of the night. Good luck to them and to all creatures who are suffering in Australia and everywhere else where there is flooding.
