Sarah Palin: Crosshairs Used By Democrats, Critics 'Not Going To Shut Me Up' (VIDEO)

(AP) WASHINGTON — Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, defending herself against criticism following the Tucson, Ariz., shootings, said Monday that she used the term "blood libel" to describe comments made by those who falsely tried to link conservatives to the assassination attempt against Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Speaking out for the first time since she used the term in a video, Palin said on Fox's Sean Hannity show that the term referred to those "falsely accused of having blood on their hands." (Scroll down for video.)

Some Jewish groups strongly protested her use of the term, which historically was used to accuse Jews of using blood of Christians in religious rituals.

"I think the critics again were using anything that they could gather out of that statement," she said. "You can spin up anything out of anybody's statements that are released and use them against the person who is making the statement."

Palin, a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2012, said the criticism won't stop her from speaking out and accusing Democrats of taking the country in the wrong direction.

She vowed to keep speaking out with the message that the country is headed in the wrong direction. She says "They're not going to shut me up."

Palin said her political action committee's use of crosshairs to identify targeted congressional districts for Republican pickups was not original and has been used by Democrats. As she spoke, a Democratic map was shown on the screen with circular targets of districts Democrats wanted to win.

The former governor said the crosshairs graphic was taken down by the PAC's hired graphic artist after the criticism began. "I don't think that was inappropriate," she said

The shooting on Jan. 8 killed six and wounded 13, including Giffords. Her district was among those in the Palin site's crosshairs.

Palin insisted that she has "repeated over and over my condemnation of violence." She said she was frustrated that conservatives who responded to false accusations _blaming them for the shootings – have become part of the story.

Asked why she was singled out for criticism, Palin, speaking from her hometown of Wasilla, said, "I know that a lot of those on the left hate my message and they will do all they can to stop me because they don't like the message."

Palin added, "I receive a lot of death threats. My children do."

The former governor said she supported calls for civility in politics but added, "we should not use an event like that in Arizona to stifle debate."

Asked what she thought of Obama's speech at a memorial for the victims, Palin said, "I thought there were parts of it that really hit home that all of us can hold onto and live out."

Palin received lower marks for her handling of the tragedy from more Americans than President Barack Obama did, a Washington Post-ABC News poll released Monday found.

Nearly 8 in 10 of those surveyed gave Obama high marks for his response, and 71 percent of Republicans approved of Obama's leadership after the shootings, the Post reported. About 30 percent of those polled approved of Palin's response; among Republicans, her positive marks rose to 56 percent.

More than half of those polled said the tone of the country's political discourse didn't contribute to the shootings.

The poll of 1,053 adults, conducted by telephone Jan. 13-16, had a margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Here is the ultimate reply to Palin's attitude, courtesy of (of all people) Joan Rivers, quoting Howard Stern, who cut through all the BS and nailed it:

"As Howard Stern said today so brilliantly, 'If they took Bristol Palin's face and put it on the Internet with crosshairs and gave her address, I think Sarah Palin would have had something to say about that.' The hypocrisy gets me crazy on every level."

"I don't think that was inappropriate," she said, referring to use of rifle scope crosshairs when "targeting" political opponents.

So ... once again,   nothing was learned  as Sarah was too caught up in turning the criticism into another opportunity to wallow in victimhood, neglecting to consider that using violent rhetoric is - at best - unnecessary,  and - at worst - incitement to violence

She's giving "prayerful consideration" to running for President. That's a euphemism for her being determined to railroad everybody else in the race and snatch the presidency for herself.

It would appear that "shutting up' is a physical impossibility for Sarah.

What is surprising is that some listen !

Sarah needs to police her kids' mouths and Facebooks. I'm not surprised they have death threats. Her kids are flipping the bird to everyone in America on FB and not being nice little Palin children. The apple doesn't rot far from the tree.

Did her whine about "democrats did it too" pass the Anthony Weiner test? It is just another lie for the drinking game? Do they have some kind of mental block about videos and the web that documents what they have said? Show me the Democrats target ad.

Dem's did have a bulls eye target ad several years ago targeting states. Palin put corsshairs on districts, which is more personal and more sighted in as in shooting.

It was Palin's gun rhetoric, combined with the cross hairs that implicated her.

Maybe she should have learned the historical significance of the term "Blood Libel" before she used it. It doesn't just mean false accusations. Of course, she would just blame the speech writer because SP is infallible!!!!

I'm going to develop a new app for the iPhone called "Fix Stupidity" - a central database of Sarah Palin's speeches. That would make for a wonderful interactive teaching tool for American children on how not to speak as well as central database that one can click on to reach ultimate stupidity. It would be interactive, with various correcting tools - "insert period here," "end sentence here," etc. It would also be competitive - along the lines of "Are you smarter than a Fifth grader?" Obviously, the goal would be to redo her entire speech and get 100%! Children all over American can gain grammar skills by correcting Sarah Palins! Imagine that. English teachers would have instant daily homework assignments. "Kids - correct anything Sarah said today." Sponsors could pony up large cash awards for the bigger speaches, such as this recent Hannity debacle of the Tucson trajedy. Thousands of speeches are already existing! This could be big, my friends. Now, don't any of you steal my idea. I thought of it first - documented. What do you think - free app or $.99? All proceeds go to your favorite charity promoting literacy in America. Have to run and retain a patent attorney - any volunteers?

I feel another "I can see russia from my house" moment coming on from Palin.

Yeah, I know that was Tina Fey. But let's face it, it was a very Palin thing to say.

Funny because it was so close to what Ms Palin said: "We have trade missions back and forth. We-- we do-- it's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where-- where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is-- from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to-- to our state."

Scary

If you notice, many photos of politicians catch them in an awkward expression. A couple months of pictures of Palin making ugly faces would end her twerpy little career.

Well, no--in the general media. Not a master plan I'm developing, just my thoughts on the shallowness of her appeal.
