Toddler Smoking Pot Video Lands Couple In Jail

HESPERIA, Calif. — A Southern California couple has been arrested for allegedly having their toddler smoke a marijuana pipe.

San Bernardino County sheriff's Deputy Lisa Guerra says a tipster provided video showing 20-year-old Melanie Soliz and 24-year-old Blake Hightower allowing their 23-month-old son to smoke pot. A sheriff's spokeswoman says the video is evidence and won't be released.

The Victorville Daily Press reports that Guerra went to the couple's Hesperia home. Soliz, who is seven months pregnant, was arrested and booked for investigation of cruelty to a child. Hightower surrendered Saturday night and was also booked.

Why are people defending this couple? A little toddler shouldn't be inhaling anything in his lungs as they are still in the crucial development stages.

we didn't see the video, probably the kid didn't inhale, it is not something that comes naturally to 2 year olds..

I'm going to assume the kid inhaled some smoke as that is the definition of smoking. We shouldn't be defending these knucklehead parents just because it involved marijuana (which we can't criticize on Hpost).

In Europe it is common that a child can drink wine at the dinner table....... Lets get a grip here..... Was these parents really having their child smoke or was it just a childish joke that went to far. Either way, it was a stupid thing to do. So, who was the person who turned them in...... a good caring friend I assume. Mean while Bush and the thieving corporate gangsters sent thousands of young men to their death on a lie. I've known people that rubbed whiskey on their toddlers gums when they were teething. But they weren't so dim that they filmed it. People need to get a grip on what they film and then post online. There are consequences.

but the reporting of it is not beyond politics, this happens a hundred times a day with alcohol but it doesn't get a head line.

During CA's Prop 19 campaign these type of stories were everywhere, and a large portion of them turned out to be completely bogus.

It's stupid, it's irresponsible, it makes reefer look like the culprit, the culprit is the parent. People should be licensed to be parents. Arguing the scientific specifics is nonsense, there is no defending what she did, there is no argument for it or to mitigate it. (I'm getting to sound more like my late father every day. We never got along when he was alive, now, we are on speaking terms.)

Even as someone who has no problem with pot smokers, I still find this scenario highly unethical. Terrible, terrible parents. "Here, put this heated gas into your developing lungs. It will make you happy even though you literally already have no concerns or the mental capacity to process what we're forcing you to do."
