The Atlantic:

One of 2010's most anticipated releases was Infinium, a collaboration between BBC and Germany's Weihenstephan, the world's oldest brewery. For months beer-geek message boards popped with rumors: It had been three years in the making. It would taste of coriander and apricots. It would come with real pieces of Samuel Adams (or what's left of him) floating inside.

the year. Jim Koch, the founder and beer-Yoda of Sam Adams, isn't humble about Infinium, which hit stores late last year.

It was alright, but not $20 alright. I'll keep drinking their Oktoberfest every fall.

It may not have been on any top tens but I didn't mind it. It had a nice crisp grassy flavor. Definitely a step up from any bud coors or miller fare just a little pricey.

Samuel Adams Noble Pils is my favorite Sam Brew. Unfortunately it is a Spring beer only..

Keep in mind that Sam Adams makes many different kinds of beers. They make a summer wheat, a winter ale, a lager, an IPA and many others. In my search for great beers,

Sam Adams is the Starbucks of the beer world, you either like them or you don't. I find their stuff boring but that's just me. I still have a bottle of their Triple Bock wonder if it got better with age...

Didn't they already try out a similar product in the late 90's?

I'm a fan of some of Sam Adams' special brews, in particular their Winter Lager, as it is dark and very full-bodied, reminding me of the many strong lagers I loved in Europe. It is also widely available, unlike some of their micro-micro-brews. I admire their wanting to branch out and try different ways of brewing but these ultra-brews are just prohibitively expensive and, unless they are superb, they don't make it. Why fork out $20 for one bottle I may or may not enjoy when I can buy four bottles of something I really, really like for the same price? I don't think I'm alone in this either!

Really? You've never bought a single bottle for $20? I pay that much or more for a bottle of wine (which I try not to drink if beer is a possibility) I don't think it's unreasonable. It's a shorter run. It takes more time. There's more process/innovation involved. Heck - I've paid more than that for a single bottle of some trappist styles that have bring NO innovation (just quality product).

If it's just about price, stick with what you really, really like...of course, you probably wouldn't know you really, really liked it had you not tried it the first time.
