Cathy Cruz Marrero, 'Fountain Girl,' Falls In Mall Fountain While Texting, Considering Lawsuit (VIDEO)

Fountain Girl

Cathy Cruz Marrero gained fame almost overnight, but not exactly how she wanted to.

Better known as "Fountain Girl" by the likes of Perez Hilton, the mall security video of Marrero tripping on a fountain and falling in while texting has already attracted almost 1.7 million views on YouTube.

But Marrero's not laughing. In fact, she may be suing.

"Instead of laughing, they should have said, 'Is she OK?' and been down there right away to check on me," she told Reading Eagle in her first interview since the video went viral. Marrero says security didn't respond until 20 minutes later, at which point she had already left the mall.

From Reading Eagle:

Her attorney, James M. Polyak of Reading, said he plans to conduct an investigation into what happened.

"We are troubled by the fact that anyone at the Berkshire Mall responsible for releasing this video would find humor in an employee injured on the premises," Polyak said. "We intend to hold the appropriate persons responsible.

"No one from that security office came to her aid in a timely manner."

Marrero says she'll never walk and text again.

It is so clearly staged and she's a con-artist with a long record of stealing (google her name for lots of info). If I were texting and walking and walked into a big wall at the height of my knees I'd be complaining of a bruised knee but I wouldn't pick my knee up and then slip into the fountain. Watch it carefully - she planned this!

The fountain should sue her.

Oh that will salve her international embarrassment...sue baby sue. This is why the rest of the world laughs at us, because we follow up stupid with stupider and then call a lawyer.

Yes, because when I do something dumb that I want to quickly forget about and hope no one saw, the first thing I do is go on national television admitting that the grainy, barely visible, unrecognizable figure doing something stupid on camera is me.

Here's hoping she becomes the star wars kid of the decade.

She should be sued for extreme stupidity.

I was wondering when a lawyer would come running up behind her and hand her a card.

If this woman was looking where she was going she would have not fallen! That is the problem with people so wild about texts. What would have happened if she was walking and walked smack into a car? This should be a wake up call for all people who send texts. What was security supposed to have done? I am not surprised that the "fountain girl" wants to sue, it is a very common thing today. Once upon a time there was a person who got coffee at a drive through and sued when the coffee burned their privates. It is sad when the middle name of America is sue.

Malls have tons of security cameras. They don't have someone watching all the cameras at all times. The cameras are there:
1) as a deterrent to minor shoplifters
2) to have a visual record in case something happens.

The security guards probably weren't watching her in real time. Someone reported a person fell in the fountain, so they rewound the digital DVR and watched the incident then.

When did we become a society of 'it's always someone else's fault'?

I'm not sure why exactly she's suing. I suppose she could sue herself for negligence... Or even better, the mall could sue her for dirtying up their fountain.

No one came to "aid" her? She doesn't look injured, beyond needing a brain transplant...

You know Tom Green was kicked out of malls for going in their fountain . . . he never sued.
