Keith Olbermann On Lieberman: 'Good Riddance' To 'Delusional Liar' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 01/20/11 08:26 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:25 PM ET

Keith Olbermann made his (unsurprising) disdain for outgoing Senator Joe Lieberman clear on his Wednesday show, calling Lieberman a "delusional liar" and saying, "good riddance."

Olbermann did a segment on the news conference Lieberman held, where he announced that he would not run for reelection in 2012 and compared himself to John F. Kennedy. But his real scorn for Lieberman emerged in all of his plugs for the segment before it aired.

In one of them, he said, "don't let the delusional liar door hit you in the delusional liar butt on the way out." In another, he said, "goodbye, Joe Lieberman, and good riddance." And in still another, he accused Lieberman of "lying even on the way out the door."

In the segment, Olbermann brought Slate's David Weigel on to talk about Lieberman. He asked sarcastically what problem Democrats could have had with Lieberman's domestic positions--"except for the estate tax, the Bush tax cuts, school vouchers, gay marriage, homeland security, the public option, the Medicare buy-in, privatizing Social Security and tort reform."--let alone his foreign policy choices.

It is unfortunate that two announcement so close together brought a bitter-sweet reaction from a number of citizens, but the resignation of Joe Lieberman was long overdue, and to echo Keith Oolbermann, "good riddance", but the bad news, of Keith's leaving MSNBC overshadows this triumph for the progressive movement. Lieberman's election to the Senate still astounds me except I think at the time his opposition was relatively unknown, and he was playing "candle in the wind" politics with both parties. I still blame Al Gore for Lieberman's 30 seconds of fame.

R.I.P. to the king of hate speech.. I only wish you could take Glen Beck with you..

Perhaps one should learn to distinguish hate from outrage! Beck is Hate - Keith was OUTRAGE!

Keith Olbermann told the truth. In the beginning he was a novelty
that skimmed fringe audiences in the fringe demographics. In the
beginning that looked good on paper BUT, and there is always a
"but" he started to get some real traction. E.G. he was being noticed
by and influencing the larger mainstream audience demographics.
In other words he was changing mindsets rather than just attracting
new audiences from the fringes. That could not be tolerated because
it interfered with the primary mission of the corporate media. And that
is to shape public opinion to fit corporate and political (the same thing
right) agendas Olbermann was beginning to interfere with the shaped
buying and voting behaviours created and maintained by the media.
He was provoking what the US corporate and political oligarchy fears
the most, independent thought

Olbermann said what the rest of the populace has known for years. The only thing Olbermann ommitted was Lieberman's #1 priority was the US's subserviance to Israel. We ignore to our own detriment. If he had mentioned this, he would have joined Helen Thomas and Rick Sanchez.

Olbermann, it takes one to know one, which makes you eminently qualified to acknowledge that Lieberman is a delusional liar. I was delighted to learn that you've finally been sacked.
08:31 PM on 01/23/2011
Bah! to you.
12:31 AM on 01/24/2011
So that makes you a liar by you own logic, for if you recognise Keith as a Liar, that process labels you as a liar - so in any further denial of your mendacity, having already proven what you are a liar actually might prove Keith's HONESTY - as anything you say, are actually lies!

When little joe LIEman mentions the phrase "anti-american" what he really means is anti-israel and then this country is led around like a rabid dog.

On October 28, 2010, days before the 2010 U.S. elections, Keith Olbermann
donated $2,400 each to three Democratic candidates for Congress.

One of them was Gabrielle Giffords.

I predict that Lieberman will immigrate to Israel after his term ends.Lieberman's "Israel can do no wrong" has a long history. Joe Lieberman has always represented Israel more than he has the people of Connecticut.

I won't miss Traitor Joe. Never met an illegal war he didn't love. No WMD's? No problem. Just LIE. Keith on the other hand, is awesome. Speaking truth to power is rare in America today. It just got a little rarer.

Right back at you, Keith.

This is why Olberman is now off the air. He likes to think of himself as Edward R. Murrow. Murrow said things like we should not walk in fear of one another. Olberman calls people "delusional liars." How learned, how intelligent, how witty is that?

Good night and good luck is a phrase originated by Murrow-- and plagiarized by Olberman,

Like a lot of people, I don't think of myself as an Olberman fan by any means. For good reason too: The hyper ego, ueber ego, the sheer grandiosity of the man was sickening. The way he acted as a child upon return from his suspension. He seemed to be rubbing the names of his bosses in their capitulation regarding his suspension. He acted like a child on the air his first day back.

He thinks that he is the story and not the news. Amazed that there is a studio that big enough for his outsized ego. He is gone because from his show because of his outsized ego.

But one thing Olberman should get credit for is being one of the first to put bloggers on his show. He had Marcy Wheeler, Glenn Greenwald, Josh Marshall, Greg Sargent, among others-- long before anyone else on cable would do them. And he would quote TPM and Marcy and ThinkProgress when other MSM or cable programs refused to.

And besides Tucker Carlson, he among the first to put Rachel Maddow on the air, too.
