Say it isn't so. I wouldn't watch this 'Annie". But I'd watch the original over and over.

I think this is a great idea. I love the Smith's and Jay Z had the "hard knocks" song to go with this. Kind of like the play the Wiz was a remake of the Wizard of Oz. It will definitely have an audience and make it's money. I for one am looking forward to the production. Best of luck to Willow!

Given the difficulty most children have adjusting to stardom, I cannot for the life of me, understand why Will Smith and Jada Pinkett would subject their children to this kind of scrutiny at such a vulnerable age. It's not like they need the money, and it's not like they haven't had plenty of examples of child stardom gone wrong with Tatum O' Neal, Drew Barrymore, Brad Renfro, all the kids from different strokes.....
What on earth are they doing?

It's going to bomb - like public interest in Smith and his untalented brood.

I used to love Will and Jada Pinkett Smith because they seemed so grounded as parents. But the more I hear about them and the ridiculous stuff they let their kids do, the less and less I like them.

i like what was said on dlisted about how most parents take videos of their kids and subject their friends to them while the smiths force people to pay $12 to watch their home movies.

Can there be comment about this without the veiled and not so veiled color partisans? Some "stars" just come across as annoying/obnoxious to a lot of people, Will Smith and family seem to fit that role as did Kathy Lee Gifford, remember the endless chatter about Cody? Argh!! I'm sure there are some more people can think of without going in "that" direction. These people have their fans/detractors and will still be paid. Someone posted earlier that maybe given their money/influence they could do an "original" that idea has a lot of merit, since most people don't like a "classic" messed with on a whole lot of levels.

The curly red headed little girl from the depression?

It's been done to death. also, i mean, annie has a visual history. She's a comic strip originally, not a novel.  Race changing means it isn't Annie.  it may be good, it may be bad. but it wouldn't be Annie.

His son was pretty good in the Karate Kid remake although the movie itself fell flat for me.

Again, you can not remake a character that really existed, but you can changed a fictional character to tell a story of the time. See, Shakespeare characters.... Except Julius Caesar of course.

I loved annie as well. My sister, girl friend and I would take turns pretending to be Annie and would sing songs from the movie while descending the stair case.

It is such a classic movie. The remake of Karate Kid was decent even though it was almost the exact same story. I don't think that model would work as well for Annie. They would really need to take it in a new direction.

does anyone really care??

Sorry, but I can only picture Annie as a little girl with curly red hair. It's just what I grew up with, so I just can't see Willow in this role.

In the immortal words of 2pac "you're to old to understand the way the games sold". That you think this movie would even be geared to someone your age is laughable so what color hair or race you can or can't imagine Anne being is highly irrelevant, don't you think? I know I know, you had to say something right?
07:30 PM on 01/20/2011
Annie is geared to many generations so your comment is laughable. Annie is known for her red curly hair and yes she was white. Would you be ok with a remake of Shaft starring lets say Brad Pitt as Shaft.
