Google is preparing to launch Google Offers, the search giant's Groupon competitor, Mashable has learned. We have the documents to prove it.

One of our sources has sent us a confidential fact sheet straight from the Googleplex about the company's new group buying service. "Google Offers is a new product to help potential customers and clientele find great deals in their area through a daily email," the fact sheet says.

Groupon should have sold itself for 6 billion. This "idea" for a mass market coupon is easily copied and I doubt patentable. Besides I think its a flash in the pan - coupons will always be around - but the Groupon coupon has limited appeal at best. I haven't seen one that I would bother with. I even read where the business honoring the groupon almost have gone bankrupt because of the extreme discounts they are required to provide. If a local restaurant just plain offers a day with 90% off of all the menu items I would go over there and try it out. The restaurant doesn't have to sell it's soul to Groupon to bring in that kind of traffic.
