Editor Praises Lea T's 'Strength To Go From Leo To Lea' (PHOTOS)

Transsexual model Lea T. landed her very own spread for the recent issue of Lurve magazine and we talked to editor Lyna Ahanda about her relationship with the rising fashion star. Ahanda explained:

The idea behind this cover was to shoot someone close to the people we know and hang out with everyday. Those people are very different from the ones you can see on the cover or even in a fashion magazine. We wanted to promote diversity at its best.

I met Lea over a year ago, she is [tall], amazing black long hair, beautiful skin, I could not tell first that she was transgender.

Lea was, for me, the perfect exemple of someone standing for herself. She had the strength to actually go from Leo to Lea. This cover was not about the hype. We are a small indie magazine, we just wanted to go with this idea of promoting change.

Take a look at Lea wearing (what else?) Givenchy!

Just proves that most high fashion is designed and cut to look good on skinny boys.

Sorry, but I'll save my praise for those who had the strength to transition knowing it could lose them their marriages, families, friends and jobs.

"She had the strength to actually go from Leo to Lea."

I think the vast majority of _transsexuals would quickly go from woman to man, or man to woman,
IF they had the large amounts of money they would need for their various_surgeries.

Psychologically, I guess its extremely hard, knowing that some of their friends and family members
will probably reject them. And then wondering if society in general will accept them, and let them live their lives in peace.

The costs are definitely prohibitive for many. But considering the state of our health care system, those procedures aren't likely to be covered in our lifetime, which is sad considering the profoundly positive impact it has on our lives.

And, yes, the greatest dangers, possibly only real dangers, faced by transsexuals are extrinsic, physical and psychological abuse sanctioned by our culture.

Actually, if you're under the supervision of the California Dept of Corrections (i.e., an inmate) you can get your surgery for free if you've already started the process. Crazy, huh?

Agree with Oscar. NO sweaters to greet Queen! When she dresses more conservatively as 'presidential wife' she looks the best. FLOTUS's role is not as a runway representative, although this is what media gaggles over. Way too much skin showing with too much frequency. Many times the cut of the bottom of her attire does not flatter the shape of her body.

I think you've lost your way, in more ways than one. But, this is not a thread about the FLOTUS.
