To accompany January's cold weather, this week's all about the "cool" photos. We've found cool extreme close-ups of a giraffe eating, teeny tiny baby frogs, a wolf with different colored eyes, and a panda playing with everything from a box to a fruitsicle.
And of course, we wouldn't want you to miss out on your weekly dose of cute baby animals, so we've got baby ocelots, lion cubs, and newborn elephants for you!

The thought of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service spending $25,000 to help convince a Peruvian fisherman not to turn Kermit la Rana into Kermit the Viagra Cocktail leaves me needing a stiff drink.
Perhaps it's the wisdom that comes with age, but the French have an intrinsic understanding and appreciation of seasonal, local food, of eating what you have at hand when you have it.
Today, a coalition filed a proposed initiative petition in Washington state to halt the use of battery cage confinement in egg production. There is a commercially viable alternative: cage-free production.
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and Baikal have come to symbolize not only primal, sacred wilderness but also the struggle over values and who controls natural resources.
The FDA doesn't recommend avoiding any particular food to limit dioxin exposure other than its generally recommended diet. Of course there's the option of going vegan, the diet found to have the lowest exposure to dioxins.
The Obama administration deserves credit and our strong support for demanding an end to Iceland's brutal, outdated and illegal slaughter of the world's most magnificent animals.
I often go to this page before reading any of the political articles. And after seeing such cuteness I don't even bother reading anything that will get aggravated. So adorable! I live in Costa Rica and have a cute picture on my blog of a baby sloth climbing a tree. After I took the pic she reached her arms out to me like I was her mother. It was one of the best moments of living here. www.happierthanabillionaire.com

I go to the animal photos after the political articles, it puts everything back into perspective and has a cleansing effect!! I love the part about the baby reaching out to you - thanks for sharing! ;)

Hey HP - how about some of those cute photos of the factory farm animals. Maybe when a worker is clubbing one them or when they they mutilate themselves due to long term confinement in a cage so small they cannot turn around or lie down. Or how about a picture of one of those cute little veal calves, taken from its mother so young and tied up so that it can't move or lie down - until they take it to the slaughterhouse. We are all such good-hearted animal lovers, aren't we. Well, now I think I will go search for a good veal recipe or maybe a nice turkey roast.

I'm so glad I happened upon this article and these photos before bedtime! It succeeded in erasing all the human drama my brain has absorbed from reading the "other" threads here on Hp...thanks!! ; ))

The photos are very appealing of course. Now, I hope all of you who agree with me, and who love animals, as I do, will support the World Wildlife Fund and groups urging an end to poaching, tiger, lion, rhino and elephant killing in Africa and Asia. Please look at the CNN website for the article "the Last Lions". If things continue this way, there will be no more lions, tigers, or elephants for us to admire.

I have a wonderful photo album of our family - all adopted. One cheetah, seven snow leopards, one lion, one tiger, one Amur leopard, one arctic fox, one snowy owl, one mountain lion, one sea otter, a polar bear, and several others. I encourage others to adopt too, not only from WWF but from some other organizations that use the money to protect habitat, prevent poaching, educate locals, and more. Keep asking and reminding people, every chance you get - it's a great cause that benefits absolutely all of us!! Fanned and faved!!

I asked for a litter of kittens for Christmas. Then a litter of puppies. I didn't get either one, but I did get an adopted Amur Leopard and an adopted Lynx instead (through the World Wildlife Fund). I'd have to say it worked out for the best. I hope you get a kitten, kitty cats just rock!
