Chaz Bono premiered his new documentary, 'Becoming Chaz,' at Sundance over the weekend with girlfriend Jennifer Elia by his side. ++

In the movie, which chronicles his female-to-male transition, Chaz is shown getting breast removal surgery (which "terrified" mom Cher), and talking about his sex life and his recovery from drug addiction, according to E! Online.

Chaz explained to the audience why he chose to do the movie - and is working on a sequel.

"I wanted to do this because I wanted to help people," he said. "And I knew that...I could put a face on this issue that people just don't understand because it's a hard one to understand. I wanted to be able to change people's hearts and minds on this."

computercats- your response confirms that you choose to remain unenlightenned and would rather attack my opinion rather than learning about the issue ..
if you choose to not understand an issue that will reflect in your response and so it has ..like many on this blog .. unfortunately you are not alone... believe what you want but remember your opinion is not based on knowledge ...

Denying freedom of choice from any human being to define who they are according to a clinical/biological definition is what I've heard some of the commentors warranting here, using VERY pseduo scientific logic to defend it

True understanding of the anthropological evolution of man acknowledges that body modification is a natural, very normal human trait in primitive and civilized societies.

It's only "MUTILATION" through the eyes of a prejudiced beholder.

And judging by some of the knee jerk comments in response to this story, I'm assuming their background is male, white european, judeo-christian and non-GLBT sympathetic, where everything outside the realm of a narrowly defined familiarity is unacceptable, deviant and "mutilated".

No one forces any person to make the decision to have reassignment surgery and some choose not to, while others committ to taking it further. But we have a free society and personal choice is available and for many it's the road to the start of a new life.

Would we want abortion to not be available because it's mutiliation of the mother and her unborn child? There are many in this country who take this stance as well, due to narrow defnition of conception.

Insistance that Chaz is a "transgendered male" when in fact he may think of himself as MALE is divisive labeling and mysogynistic condescencion.

Does it threaten people that Chaz can now stand side by side with men as a male and thrive in a male world?
