Indonesia Crop Circle Sparks UFO Rumors (PHOTOS)

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) - Thousands of curious onlookers are flocking to central Indonesia to look at a "crop circle" in a rice field following rumors it was formed by a UFO. (Scroll down for photos)

Though clearly sculptured by humans -- it looks like an intricately designed flower -- the 70-yard-wide (70-meter-wide) circle has drawn so much attention that police have blocked off the area with yellow tape.Villagers have started charging entrance fees.

Guntur Purwanto, chief of Jogotirto village in Sleman district, said the circle appeared in the middle of the green rice paddies over the weekend.

Among those turning out Tuesday and offering opinions were officials from Indonesia's space agency, well-respected astronomers and nuclear agency officials. All agree it was not left by an UFO.

First, which officials and astromomers, specifically? As a piece of shoddy journalism, this alone takes the cake.

But wait, there's more. The author claims, with no attribution whatsoever, that it was "clearly sculptured by humans." Really? Did someone sign it with a recognizable signature in an indelible medium, like, say, India ink? Or did they find human DNA and then match it up with a human who later declared he/she was responsible?

Posting a piece of tripe like this does HuffPo no favors. In order to practice journalism, one must first interview experts, preferably on both sides of an issue and of equal gravitas, and then offer the conclusions of those people.

As this article stands, it is simply a piece of unutterable trash unworthy even of MAD magazine, never mind something that has designs on being an actual news source.

Shame on HuffPo for this one. (Just a thought: Did you let your illiterate headline writers have a go and this is what they came up with?)

crop circles are made from huge bursts of energy created by unimaginably sized explosions in the sun that impale the earth with waves of a particular frequency and wavelength. Waves of a specific frequency and wavelength form patterns exactly like the ones formed in crop circles. If you can translate geometric language to English then we can derive a message from the geometry within the crop circle, until then we will never know what it means or if it means anything at all.
