Megan Burgess, Miss Teen Arkansas 2010, Nabbed For Public Intoxication

Former Miss Arkansas Teen Megan Burgess, 19, who passed her crown to her successor a mere two weeks ago, was arrested over the weekend at the University of Arkansas for public intoxication.

University police received a call from someone concerned about Burgess at 1 a.m. Saturday morning, KSPR reports. Police found her outside, sitting in the snow.

Cops said she was "unstable on her feet and a danger to herself."

Burgess, originally from Hot Springs, Ark., is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 7.

How many college aged kids get nabbed for PI? Mine was scrubbed from my record after paying a $100 ticket and not repeating the crime over the next 6 months. I think it's called Diversion.

If this incident helps prevent her from becoming an alcoholic then it's all good. I went through fifteen years of hell as an active alcoholic, and it pretty much started out this same way: college dorm room parties. I never got arrested due to my drinking activities until after I was out of college and by then it was too late; I was well past social drinking and deep into my alcoholism by that point. Been happily sober for quite a few years now but the ramifications of those seemingly innocent college parties can go far beyond the hangovers.

Getting arrested is the least of what bad things could happen to a 19 year old woman wandering around drunk and alone. I hope she has the intelligence to consider herself very lucky to have only encountered the law.

There is no question in my mind that she was sitting, drunk and confused, in the darkened woods near Duncan and Dickson when evil-doing cosmeticians inflicted that on the poor dear.

One of my friends was ticketed for public intoxication when we were walking home from the bars one night in college. She asked the officer, "would you rather I be walking home or driving?"

Neither is a good situation. While walking/stumbling you could fall into traffic and be struck by a car. I live in a college town and the police ticket students all the time for public intoxication.
