Wet Seal's 'Your Single Tunic': Atrocious Grammar Mistakes In For Spring (PHOTO)

First Posted: 01/25/2011 10:43 am Updated: 05/25/2011 6:25 pm

Ah, Wet Seal. We haven't thought about that store since we were in seventh grade. And back then, we still practiced better grammar than some of the chain's designers, apparently.

Presenting the "Your Single Tunic," which reads, "If Your Single, So Am I." We cringed as we were typing that.

The best part, aside from the $16.80 price tag to be a walking typo? According to one of the commenters on Reddit:

My girlfriend is a manager at one of they're stores. She sent the box of these they got back, saying their mis-printed. They sent them back to her store, and were pissed off that she didn't put them out on the floor when she was supposed to. I think its supposed to be that way, god knows why.

Not like that guy knows the difference between their and they're or its and it's, but hey -- maybe he's been getting some sort of friends and family discount.

This is just one of many issues within our (U.S.) education system we need to focus on. All one has to do his listen to the President's State of the Union address.

Making fun of grammar mistakes could be kind of fun. Too bad the joke will be lost on those who actually do spell you're as your. The people who spell this way are too dumb to get the joke.

Thanks captain obvious. Huffpo printed the quote as it was written, and then pointed out the error(s).

I'm so glad to see so many irate literate people on this thread; sometimes I think I'm the only one left who cringes when I see stuff like this. My people!

When I decide to play the role of "grammar police" with my family members, both with college backgrounds, the replies I get are:

From the boyfriend, "I knew I was using improper grammar." Doubt it since he does it quite a bit.

From the daughter with an [expensive] college edumacation, "Since I am on Messenger chatting, it doesn't really matter."

Oh? I am 52, with only a high school education and four years in the military. But I always use proper grammar, and when online, making sure punctuation is where it should be. Guess there's always an excuse for not taking ownership for one's mistakes - no matter what and where they may have erred.

Gotta love the dumbing down of America....and now, since it's pretty late and I am tired, I take no responsibility for any errors I might have made. :::cackle:::

I get a little anal about my spelling and grammar. I am not an expert in either, and actually my spelling is terrible (thank goodness for spell check), but I go out of my way at times to check what I am writing. I have a lot of friends who text and message using today's common short cuts, and I don't say a thing about it to them. I will admit that there have been a handful of times I have used "text type" when I have been in a hurry, but each time I have had a great urge to go back and correct myself.

I do too. The preview button is my friend. With built-in spell checkers in browsers like Firefox, I don't understand why we see any spelling errors. Fortunately, the more I pay attention, the fewer mistakes I make. Using "text type" is appropriate with limited keyboard/input devices but there's absolutely no excuse for it on a PC.

I'm always amused when I see people pointing out others' mistakes. Some mistakes are just that and the person does indeed know the fundamentals. Other mistakes are by those who don't know the fundamentals and don't care or even revel in their ignorance. They're a losing proposition.

My last boss had such atrocious spelling that his emails were often indecipherable. No one respected him even though he was a nice guy.
