Andrew Zimmern, 'Bizarre Foods' Host, Talks About His Favorite Travel Experience (VIDEO)

Andrew Zimmern, host of the Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods," travels the world looking for the most, well, bizarre foods.

The chef lends his opinion about his most favorite travel experience to the channel's newest program, "The Traveler's Guide To Life," which interviews notable individuals (Buzz Aldrin) as well as regular Joes to discuss seminal experiences in their lives.

Zimmern's favorite travel moment comes in Ecuador, paddling a river for nearly 2 days.

Somehow I missed this show...maybe not in my cable package...anyhow...did he do a segment on surstromming?

My dad brought some back from his first trip back to Estonia in fifty years.
I don't think I've ever seen him so excited. Like a young boy about to release his first stink bo m b.
Oh my.

He lived in an apartment building; I think it was the third floor. There was a patch of grass outside with a picnic table. The two retrievers were out there with him. He took the can opener...he was wearing a mask and rubber gloves...and he gleefully cracked open the can. Just cracked it.

The dogs IMMEDIATELY turned and RAN...we had to corral them back...it took awhile.

Upstairs...we had to close all the windows and the balcony doors...the smell hit us hard.

I have never, ever smelled anything so...devastating. =]]

His is one of my favorite shows. I only wish I had the courage to try some of the things he does. I bet he has so many great stories to tell.

I don't really watch the show any longer. It seems to have gone from Bizzar Foods to local food delicacies. It isn't as weird as it used to be. I like Zimmern, but the show has kind of mainstreamed. I used to like Man Vs Food but now I can't watch that any longer. Adam Richmond? seems to be reading his own press releases. He has lost the original personality and now has way to much swagger. I still like No reservations with Anthony Bordain. Good show and he has great narrative. I am starting to lose my love for Dirty Jobs as well. Maybe I am growing up?

I used to like the show, but mostly for it's insight into other cultures.

I stopped taking Zimmern seriously when he refused to eat durian.

The guy will eat the most rancid, revolting stuff in the world but not durian?

Amazing. I had the same opinion. He has eaten some horrible things without comment and said he could not tolerate durian. Some thais love it. Others don't. Like americans and beets.

I find his show revolting,in the sense that here is an American passing judgement on other cultures "food" whether it's good or bad.
Really ,if you are going to do a show on other cultures food,for chrissakes! stop insulting 'em with the facial smirks at the dinner table.

I have no idea what "durian" tastes like, but if Andrew can eat cheese with (live maggots) in it, then I just cannot understand why or how he could stomach a little "durian" ! YUK !

I used to enjoy watching this program until last week when they slaughtered a camel. It was disturbing.

That would have disturbed me as well. I liked the show the few times I have seen it but several times I felt like he was going for shock factor, and being gross for the sake of it. He seems like a cool enough guy but I'm glad I didn't see the camel deal.

It has to do with watching the camel get it's jugular cut and then screaming bloody murder while staggering all around the camel enclosure till it died.
