The first ever Big Air Denver competition is in the books, with Holland's Rocco Van Straten winning the snowboarding competition with a backside double cork 1080 on Tuesday night. On Monday, the team of skiers representing Armada won the 'Battle of the Brands' with tricks like a double cork 1260 blunt, a Milbocker's Kangaroo flip Japan air, and a Moxham's double cork 1080.

The event, which also featured a performance by Denver's OneRepublic, attracted an estimated 14,000 people to Civic Center Park Wednesday night. The event is set to air on NBC this weekend.

Excellent event for Denver. Good for the city, the city officials, athletes, etc. Love the alpine tricks.

WOW! 14,00 people!.....They must have given away 14,000 free tickets, because last time I checked they were 45 dollars a piece and no one I knew went that didnt get a free ticket from work. Cheers to the skiiers for being able to land the jump without putting a hand down...the snowboarders... not so much.

Skiers are SOOOO 20th century.

It was an incredible FIS World Cup event and was well attended by a vocal crowd.
