Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' condition has been upgraded from serious to good, NBC News reports.

Giffords, who was shot in the head during an alleged assassination attempt on January 8, was previously upgraded from critical to serious condition nine days ago.

Giffords watched the State of the Union in a Texas hospital with her husband, Mark Kelly.

Just checked today to see how she is doing. Glad to hear about the upgrade in her condition.

You're a strong woman, Ms. Giffords, and you sure have my support and thought (as does your husband).

So the press has given up on this story too huh?

Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck need to be arrested for this outrageous attack. Why are they not in cuffs behind bars?

They indeed should all be on trial as accessories to many crimes.

American made - what have you done with my badges?

Bless her - her rehab has a long way to go but its a miracle she survived and is now listed as good. I hope she heals completely and is 100 percent again.

John Boehner's condition has been upgraded from moronic to extremely stupid. This would not have been necessary but for the fact that Bachmann had created a completely new level of imbecility that has pushed everyone else into another category.

But Boehner and Bachmann's idiocy has already been surpassed:

(1) Rep. Jack Kingston of "I believe I came from God, not from a monkey" infamy;

-AND- -

(2) Rep. Paul Broun who is under the mistaken impression that socialism and the Constitution are incompatible.

Harold - these is little doubt that you came from a monkey based upon your comments!

Monkey? No, that's too complex. Harold was derived from a single celled swamp dweller.

This thread started by wattnot seems to have started a feeding frenzy of name calling. Is there any chance we can raise the level of the conversation? The thread was about Rep. Giffords until the subject was changed.

This is very good news. I'm looking forward to the day when Gabby voluntarily utters her first meaningful word or phrase...

When this happens, it will indicate that the connecting circuits between her cognitive areas and speech center in the left hemisphere of her brain have--at least to some extent-- been spared. And, it will be a huge milestone on her road to recovery...

She watched the State of the Union address. Oh - that is....oh that just lovely. How absolutely wonderful.

Just something I wanted to mention. Or request. Sometime Huffpo do you suppose you could have one of your reporter's give us a follow up on how the other victim's are doing? I think so often of the two people who lost their spouses, the kind woman who took little Christine and last report is having a terribly hard time (she wakes up apparently in a panic telling the little girl not to look, "hold my hand baby") and I would be glad to log on and see something with information on all the victims.

Freesia2 - I agree - I bet many folks don't know that 6 people lost their lives that day and, I believe 13 were injured. We hear mostly of Gaby, the little girl and the judge. Come on media - you are doing a very very poor job here!

What I don't understand is, if she's in "good" condition why isn't she issuing a statement of some kind? Unless I misunderstand the ratings, this should be some indication that she has cognitive powers.
07:52 PM on 01/26/2011
When you are dealing with a traumatic brain injury, any purposeful actions that shows cognitive activity is good. She has been demonstrating that. The left side of her brain was injured - which covers the speech center - hence she is not able to make any statements right now. Hopefully intensive therapy will help her to regain her speech.

I think the "good" condition is relative to her chances for survival.....I hope that they aren't putting too much pressure on her for the cognitive stuff because it can get very frustrating and it can take quite a while for that stuff to come back.

Congratulations.

Now that your settled at TIRR maybe the media will let you rest and recover.

I live in Houston and you'd be amazed at the number of times they broke into programming to talk about the projected move and show the move itself.
