nydailynews.com:

Neighbors, politicians and activists are up in arms over the city's plans to double the size of a 200-bed homeless men's shelter in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Contractors have installed small cubicles and dividers in the Sumner Armory, also called the Pamoja House, on Marcus Garvey Blvd. to make room for another 200 beds, officials, residents and advocates said.

Oh, they don't mind the expansion, as long as it is not near them.
With so many out of work and so many more kicked out of their homes, this is an absolute necessity at this time.
Would they rather these people just hurry up and die in the cold so that the problem just goes away?

New York becoming a truly hateful monocromatic Whitopia, one borough at a time.

The Mayor of New York City is a multi-billionaire. He could solve this problem in about 5 minutes with some hotel reservations. So, we'll start waiting by the phone NOW, and see how many minutes before the taxis start showing up to take all these people to at least a 3-star hotel until they can get their feet under them...ready? 'Go'. Still waiting.....still....waiting...waiting for Bloomberg....still waiting...

I say it again, to those who CLAIM to be Christians (and I am not, but I do find his words a good way to live life), the words of Jesus should tell you how to behave. Matthew 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

I was all for it when they turned an old Motel into a shelter for families, but they turned the old entertainment center there into a day use center for all homeless. The rate of crime quadrupled within a week of it opening, everything from residential burglaries to stores in the small shopping center behind me having their security doors taken out by stolen cars (another problem that soared). About 6 months after it opened the day center part caught fire. Crime immediately dropped, but unfortunately to no where near the pre shelter level.

Hire more cops? That is one solution. But no one wants to pay the extra taxes for it, but all the while they'll complain about the crime rate.
That is exactly what I hear in Flint, Michigan all the time. They want more cops, but the city can't afford it. So, the city wants to put it on the ballot. It will fail because no one wants to pay more taxes, yet will complain about the rise in crime.
You get what you pay for.

how kind of them. i guess they want the poor and homeless to always be somewhere else so they don't have to look at the problem.

Bingo. The same people who are complaining would be the same people saying other people are selfish and cruel for complaining if they were trying to build a homeless shelter somwhere else.
