Mitch Daniels, Indiana Governor, Skipped State Of The Union To Watch Purdue-Ohio State (VIDEO)

First Posted: 01/27/2011 7:05 am Updated: 05/25/2011 6:30 pm

Mitch Daniels, Governor of Indiana, apparently had something better to do on Tuesday night instead of watching President Barack Obama's State of the Union address.

On Wednesday, Daniels admitted to a television reporter that instead of watching the State of the Union, he tuned in to the Purdue-Ohio State basketball game, which started at the same time as the speech.

"You caught me. I didn't watch it. I was watching the Purdue game as long as it was watchable," Daniels said, when asked what he thought of the State of the Union. "Honestly, I've read the accounts. I've got the text of the speech and I'll be reading it between now and the next stop. I think I'll just say that I'm very hopeful that we are going to see changes in national policy."

The Purdue men's basketball team was on the road on Tuesday and got crushed by the Buckeyes 87-64. Scroll down to watch the video.

Huff Post, this crap is not a news worthy item. Who cares if he didn't look at the SOTU address. It must be a slow news day...

I am good with this. He can always catch the SOTU on tivo and skip all the clapping and backslapppping.

Must be the reason why they got their ashes handed to them.

As a percentage of the population, how many people actually did watch?

If anything... this makes him more relatable to most people, not less. Particularly when the transcript was leaked that afternoon. It's not like there weren't going to be hours of analysis and coverage afterwards to pick up on... or like the President was going to say anything anyone didn't already know.

Well, you have to appreciate his honesty. Too bad (for him, anyway) the result wasn't different. The Buckeyes blew the Boilers out of the gym.

Can't say I blame him. In retrospect, I wish I'd have done the same thing.

If my team was playing I would do the same thing. You can watch it later via the web or use a DVR.

Let's see, listen to a bunch of BS or watch NCAA basketball? That's a no brainer in anyone's book.

If Kentucky had been playing, I would have expected Governor Beshear to do the same thing.

Unlike the SotU, the outcome of the game meant something.
