Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Leaked? PlayStation Phone Specs Revealed

Posted: Updated:

After months of speculation about the so-called Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (aka PlayStation Phone), Engadget finally got its hands on what is allegedly a prototype of the phone and has posted specs and photos of the device.

Based on Engadget's hands-on analysis, this combination smartphone/portable-gaming device features a 4-inch touchscreen that slides up horizontally, revealing a gaming control panel that Engadget likens to a PlayStation DualShock gamepad.

The device also sports a webcam and is probably packing a single-core CPU. Engadget suspects that the Xperia Play will run Google's Android 2.3 (aka Gingerbread) operating software. The device is likely feature 3G capabilities and may even function as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The leaked prototype also revealed slots for a SIM card and a microSD card.

Still a mystery: pricing and access to an app store or game store.

Engadget cautions that these specs are subject to change and predicts that Sony will launch a finalized version of the device in February, during the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona.

Head on over to Engadget to read the full hands-on preview of the Xperia Play.
