Turkey Attacks U.S. Postal Service Mail Truck In Cape Cod (VIDEO)

It's not just humans who have problems with the postal service. In this "Today Show" video, a turkey in Cape Cod, Massachusetts is so angry at a postal service truck that he chases the truck down the road, running at up to 25 mph. While running, he repeatedly slams his body into the truck, in a scene that could make quite the animal action film. As one Today Show news anchor exclaims, "I'd skip that street on my route!"

This isn't the first time that a bird has threatened a postal worker. A hawk in Calgary, Canada harassed a postal worker so much that the employee was forced to wear a helmet. And then the hawk broke the helmet.

By the early 20th century, hunting had actually wiped out most wild turkeys in the US. Reintroduction programs began in the 1940s, and the efforts have been successful, according to National Geographic. Maybe the next program should involve teaching turkeys to not attack postal workers. Although perhaps the turkeys just take issue with the postal service's bald eagle emblem.

I had to stop and watch a P.O.ed wild tom chase a herd of nanny goats around a pasture this morning. Made me wonder if their dog had been repossessed!

I don't have any experience of wild turkeys, but I can tell you that male domestic turkeys can be really aggressive. Also I believe based on my contact with them that turkeys are just about the dumbest creatures on this planet. They make sheep look like intellectuals.

It's been a cold winter. Maybe the turkey was hungry and looking for some treats from the driver.

I have it on good authority that Birds United for Regular Delivery (BURD), and the organization's enforcement arm, Burder, Inc., were behind this attack. I just posted about the incident on my blog. I invite you to read the post here: http://thedailymaul.com/?p=1182

And the postal carriers thought that the dogs were bad. Now they have to worry about the turkies too.

I would sit at dusk at my mother-in-laws in Penn. and watch them roost in the trees. They really can fly a short distance and it always amazed me to see them fly up onto a branch to spend the night. I'm just glad that we still have wild turkeys around.

While in Montana I was shooting at a gun club , the owner of the ranch it was on (16,000 acres)
asked me if I could shoot a wild turkey off the roof of her house. BEing " sighted in " and feelin all gungho I set out to quickly vanquish my prey.

Yah no. The most humbling experience of my life.( and there have been a few) That thing kept coming over and looking at me "gobble gobble "Take a shot , wait for smoke to clear "GOBBLE GOBBLE " It would just HECKLE me form the roof .I never even came close to hitting it. And it was laughing at me !! THe only thing I got out of it was a feather .
( after deciding that shooting thru the living room ceiling was a bad idea no matter how mad I was ) I put it in my cowboy hat to remind me , just because I have a gun and walk upright , does not mean I can't be bested by a bird brain. That mail man is driving fast for a reason !!

Probably a "Dear Tom" letter and the stupid bird doesn't know that once its mailed something it's too late to take it back. Next time it should sleep on it before actually mailing something it's going to regret..

Turkeys are tough birds. When we lived in RI we had many truckin through our yard.. They are very territorial and can be wicked aggressive. They are beautiful though.

we used to have a small flock of wild turkeys that visited our property regularly. they were huge and beautiful, but scary as all get out, i'd herd the kids inside and just wait until they waddled away. geese are nasty too.

I used to work for the Department of Agriculture and had to go door to door to inspect people's gardens for a pathogen. One day, I went to a house with two huge male turkeys who seemed to be protecting the house like dogs. They were very threatening and ready to fight.

Maybe the turkey suspected the mailman of FOWL play. Ok, I'm done.
