ATDHE, Sports Streaming Website, Seized By Homeland Security

The sports streaming website ATDHE.net has had its domain seized by ICE Homeland Security Investigations.

A spokesperson from ICE confirmed that it was a legitimate seizure and that there is an ongoing investigation into the matter.

According to a description on Mahalo, ATDHE "specializes particularly in live sports, but also features general programming from networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX. The website, although popular, has come under fire as to any copyright restrictions it may be violating in operating the service."

The term "ATDHE" was trending on Twitter late on Tuesday as users tweeted their disappointment and concern over discovering the website was no longer up and running. "scary stuff when govnmnt [sic] can just take your domain," tweeted Jason Calacanis. Others suggested that the website had responded to the closure by opening up at a different domain address: ATDHE.me.

"For the record, ATDHE.net appears to have moved to ATDHE.me and is working fine," tweeted @Amgodd.

NOTE (2/6/2011): One reader advises that users should be wary of using ATDHE.me as it may not be an official replacement, noting it is a "fake site which tries to install malware." Though neither have been confirmed as the official accounts for ATDHE, AtdheNettv and AtdheNET have tweeted that ATDHE is back online at http://atdhenet.tv/.

I wonder if the feds just prefer sticking their finger in the levee as opposed to doing something meaningful, or if they really think they can put an end to unauthorized live streaming by simply seizing domain names? Maybe it's like the War on Americans (Drugs) where they know good and well that prohibition is an insanely wasteful and abysmal failure but they're too busy buying assault rifles and Stormtrooper costumes with seized "drug" assets to care?

Hold on just a second. Its so easy to blame the government for everything but the real culprit is that great Socialist institution called the NFL. You can't call a Super Bowl party at a bar a Super Bowl party. It has to be a "Big Game" or some other nonsense alias. Every scrap of merchandise must bear the seal or the seller will face criminal and civil charges.

In this case the driving force behind this is clearly the NFL. No President will ever have the power to oppose the NFL which as Bill Maher so aptly put it takes from the richer more successful and penalizes them in the name of parity.

Late to the party, but it's not so simple...

Sites like these make games available that people around the world are simply unable to pay for and receive. In many cases, it's the only way to follow the English Premier League, for example beyond the limited number of games carried on Fox Soccer Channel, etc.

Really scary stuff. I used to think all those "get the gvt off my back" guys were kooky. This changes everything. Not only was the move ridiculous on its face, but unnecessary since there were more than one way to skin the cat.
Corporations running the gvt? Now that is change I can believe in.
I won't vote for anyone this Presidential election. Count me as a former Obama lover to a Obama nonsecular who won't vote for him or anyone in Congress.
Maybe just maybe some new guy who wants to run for Congress gets it.
I feel that its just a bunch of good ole boys that take advantage of the people's trust each election, and still get relected because of the idiocy of the American electorate.

I share your antipathy for Beck, and would like to welcome you to the growing crowd of Americans who are finally joining the rest of the free world in realizing that the U.S. government is becoming increasingly tyrannical and seems to loathe freedom more than those scary terrorists they can't seem to stop talking about when they want to introduce some new invasive technology being sold and manufactured by one of their former Secretaries or appointees or legislators. I would like to point out though...if you think this is really scary stuff (and it is)...you might take some time to read up on declassified documents obtained through FOIA. Seizing domain names is one thing...the alphabet soup soldiers of Federal Agency XYZ could probably do that in their sleep by now...but irradiating pregnant women without their consent or knowledge is in another domain entirely. Look up the CIA's Family Jewels if you want to read some truly terrifying tales.

Isn't TiVo or DVR more of a threat to sponsors than live streaming? I can't pause and fast forward a live stream (unless I record it). And, a lot of people are watching via a cable provider anyway, so it doesn't really by pass cable providers, it is just a different method of delivery.

Yeah...I can't walk five steps down the street without stumbling over an underpaid Producer using his $10,000 sportcoat as a pillow and skinning Chinchillas alive so that their warm, bloodsoaked fur might be used as a blanket. Likewise, everytime I stop at the corner gas station to fill up my pickup, I am literally surrounded by destitute Owners begging me to pay them $20 to clear brush or pick up leaves. I'm so tired of Producers and Owners getting shafted, they're so horrifically undercompensated for the labor of those who work beneath them...it's an outrage. When will the Producers and Owners of our society get their due? When will the proletariat fascists remove their jackboots from their necks? Please God let it end...
