Suspects Reported To FBI By Planned Parenthood Turned Out To Be Hoaxers, Like Planned Parenthood Suspected

First Posted: 02/01/11 06:01 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:30 PM ET

Planned Parenthood Investigation

Last week, it was revealed that several Planned Parenthood offices had been visited by persons who willingly identified themselves as being the head of an "interstate sex trafficking ring that involves minors and illegal immigrants." Those offices coordinated their information with Planned Parenthood's national organization, who reported the activity to the FBI, despite the lingering notion that they were actually being set up for a James O'Keefe-style "sting."

As it turns out, their instincts were right, right down to the identity of the hoaxers: Lila Rose's Live Action, who on Tuesday posted their heavily-edited video encounter with a Planned Parenthood staffer.

Over at TPM Muckraker, Rachel Slajda runs down the ins and outs:

In a statement, Planned Parenthood said Live Action visited two Central New Jersey clinics on Jan. 13, including the one in the video. A spokesman for Planned Parenthood said that, immediately after the visits, clinic employees told their managers and called local law enforcement. It was not immediately clear, however, whether the woman in the video notified management or police.

The statement says "appropriate action is being taken" into the woman's actions.

"Planned Parenthood insists on the highest standards of care, and safeguards the trusted relationship we have with patients, families and communities. What appears on edited tapes made public today is not consistent with Planned Parenthood's practices, and is under review. Phyllis Kinsler, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey (PPCNJ), has stated that, 'the behavior of our employee, as portrayed on the video, if accurate, violates PPCNJ policies, as well as our core values of protecting the welfare of minors and complying with the law, and appropriate action is being taken.'"

[...]

After eight clinics reported the same strange visit within five days, Planned Parenthood reached out to the FBI, via a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, calling for an investigation into a potential sex trafficking ring. In the letter, Planned Parenthood notes that the visits had all the earmarks of a hoax.

So there you have it. Planned Parenthood may have a single staffer whose actions need to be called into question. And so, that staffer is being called to accounts. Other than that, Planned Parenthood is an organization that, if it catches a whiff of some illegal activity, gets the FBI involved as quickly as possible, even when they suspect that they are being subjected to a hoax.

One thing that conservative agitprop activists have taught me about the world of prostitution rings and human trafficking is that the actual ringleaders of actual prostitution rings never walk into places like Planned Parenthood and willingly offer, "Hey, I run this prostitution ring of minors and undocumented immigrants, and I was wondering what services are available to me!" That is only something that people who are pretending to be the ringleaders of a pretend prostitution ring do. It's too bad that the opposite isn't true, because it would be much easier to run actual prostitution rings to ground.

But running an actual prostitution ring to ground isn't something these activists genuinely want to do. And, insofar as the FBI and the Department of Justice actually had to expend resources investigating a hoax, their efforts actually make the running-to-ground of actual prostitution rings much harder. But whatever! Like I said before, if you're visited by someone claiming to be the ringleader of a prostitution ring, call the authorities!

UPDATE: Here's a further statement from Phyllis Kinsler, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey, on the matter of the single employee being called to accounts:

"We were profoundly shocked when we viewed the videotape released this morning, which depicted an employee of one of our health centers behaving in a repugnant manner that is inconsistent with our standards of care and is completely unacceptable. We have a zero tolerance policy for this kind of behavior, and the employee in the video was immediately suspended from her duties this morning and was terminated this evening. We are fully committed to delivering high-quality reproductive health care to the women of our communities, complying with all laws, and upholding the highest ethical standards."

All this feigned concern about girls, but the same people are not up in arms about the fact that many states allow girls as young as 14 to marry nor are they protesting against the sects that practice this such as led by Warren Jeffs.  No, because that is okay with the anti-choice crowd, turning a 14 year old into a baby factory.

Another point is any recommendations should be between patient and doctor, but federally funded or even privately funded organizations that promote social agendas that may not be in the best interest of the patient should be prohibited. This does not mean you can't have an abortion, that's your right but taxpayers should not have to pay for it or fund organizations that promote it. I now this site is pro-abortion, but that doesn't make it right either.

They Hyde Amendment already prohibits federal funding for abortions.  You are fighting a battle you have already won.

But the Mexico City amendment which prohibited federal funding of overseas abortions was overturned by Obama as one of the first actions on reaching office.

Obamacare overturns the Hyde Amendment. Only an executive order prevents the law allowing funded abortions from being implemented fully. And we have not won the battle in the states -- all but four states fund abortions with varying exceptions, and more than thirty factor in "mental health" -- that obvious loophole so big you could drive through sideways that bus Obama keeps throwing people under.

No one is "pro-abortion."  It is a terrible CHOICE that faces women.

That would be pro-choice.

Should anyone's choice include the right to kill another person?
04:57 PM on 02/03/2011
Its really hard to defend these types of accusations when the tapes speak for themselves including more tapes being offered to Congressional members for review. You don't offer the services of an abortion clinic to underage girls, period. Taxpayers should not be funding organizations like this to begin with because this is the type of corruption that happens.

You don't own your off-spring.

If they have reached the age of consent, they can consent.

You should be worried about the billions wasted in defense if you are actually concerned about corruption.

Then what gives a mother the right to murder her children in the 3rd trimester, the same stage of pregnancy when they could be born prematurely via C-Section? Oh, it's because she owns her offspring, right? And they haven't reached age of consent, so they don't have rights, correct?

In Planned Parenthood Land, you can consent even if you haven't reached the age of consent. We are up to five videos now, and all of them indicate that PP will abort 14 year olds under the right circumstances. In one office, they just need a photo id. Now, we are seeing here either (a) employees aware of a "hoax", (b) employees acting on their own, (c) employees acting on a bad single-office protocol, or (d) a systemic act which originates from the highest levels of management at PP.

I'd wager (d) myself -- it makes perfect sense from a business model standpoint.

When the revolution comes to the US it will be illegal to do such stings and say anything negative about institutions such as Planned Parenthood who are only concerned with making people good.

You mean like the Tea Party's "40-year plan" that includes radical changes to all three branches of government, and cultural changes that are just plain weird. They miss the good old days, when they could just burn these women at the stake, and have done with it.

I just wish Progressives were stronger and just posed these question to these Pro-life tards; What about the people killed every day be guns here in the US because of your alignment with the NRA and other gun lobbies? What about the kids already here who need help? How about the People including kids killed cuz we want to steal their oil? and what about the real people who die every day cuz they don't have access to Healthcare? Just crickets....

Why doesn't this surprise me? The Anti-Abortion fanatics have been after Planned parenthood for as long as I can remember. They have no clue about all the many other services offered by the staff of planned parenthood.

They are willfully ignorant to the needs of young men, and young women of america. The need to privacy, the need to counseling, the need for many things Planned parenthood offers.

It isn't simply an abortion clinic, I can say this from experience. A room mate of mine, some years back had to go to the clinic for a personal problem. We were both educated (She didn't want to be alone) on safe practices, given pamphlets and contraceptives despite both of us attesting we weren't TOGETHER. They offered referals to doctors, and counseling, and advocates as well.

They treated her with dignity and let her choose what she wanted to do with her body, without being judgmental like the right so often is.

The people who filmed these video's should be held accountable, and if possible have charges brought against them. They've violated a trust that's taken a lot of effort to be earned by women in this country, the trust that they can enter the clinic an have their privacy held to the highest standards.

Whose to say, when they have personal problems they show up and these vigilantes aren't there to film who goes in or out?

One has a right to speech, but not to yell fire in a crowded theatre. One has a right to privacy, but not to kill someone in their own home (so why their own body?). This is about whether such a right should include the right to murder, to infringe on another's inalienable right to life.

If you say the child is nothing more than a fetus, a glob of flesh, you're proving my point, that this is not about privacy, but about when a fetus becomes human. Because if it is human, then privacy or anything else is no excuse for killing it. Rape and life of the mother might be justifiable, but otherwise, no.

And when it comes to that, why are we not erring on the side of caution when potentially taking another human life? Why try to see how close we can come to murder to allow irresponsible sexual lifestyles at the risk of killing another human being?

100,000 3rd trimester abortions are performed each year. 10% of the 1 million + in the last 3 months of pregnancy. The 3rd trimester is also when premature births via C-Section occur. Why is it alright to kill them at the same stage of pregnancy they could be born and live? Are they suddenly human just because outside the body?

By such arbitrary logic, the abortion community is inevitably guilty of murder by the millions.

Phyllis Kinsler, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey said "We are fully committed to delivering high-quality reproductive health care to the women of our communities, complying with all laws, and upholding the highest ethical standards." . The ethical standards of the founder of Planned Parenthood tell us even more. Sanger believed that, for the purpose of racial "purification," couples should be rewarded who chose sterilization. Birth Control in America, The Career of Margaret Sanger, by David Kennedy, p. 117, quoting a 1923 Sanger speech." More children from the fit, less from the unfit -- that is the chief aim of birth control." Birth Control Review, May 1919, p. 12. The purpose in promoting birth control was "to create a race of thoroughbreds," she wrote in the Birth Control Review, Nov. 1921 (p. 2). Are these standards that we should all embrace?

What Margaret Sanger wrote 90 years ago has nothing to do with Planned Parenthood's mission today, if it ever did. I suggest you look at the women's health services provided by Planned Parenthood before you insinuate any more vicious motives to the organization:: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/womens-health-4284.htm

Your remarks are incredibly irresponsible. There's no excuse for your allegation.

Black mothers abort at three times the frequency of white mothers. I'm wondering where the ideal location of a Planned Parenthood clinic is -- from a purely business standpoint, of course.

See http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/gpr/11/3/gpr110302.html

Guttmacher is Planned Parenthood's publicity arm. Note that my comments are, according to Guttmacher, true even when controlling for income.

sorry Uncle---that's not it. If the right had any history of fighting sex trafficking this might ring true---but they don;t. They are playing politics and trying to destroy any institution that actually helps the poor or disadvantaged. If they cared about abused women Planned Parenthood would be the last place to attack. While I'm not in any way defending the behavior of the woman in question, if I were a doctor and someone came into my office and said, "I've kidnapped a child who needs medical care, but I won't bring her in unless you promise not to turn me in," I'd probably say, "Please, bring her in. I won't say a word to anyone." What I'd do once the child was actually IN my custody and care would be a very different story however.

I think we have to evaluate the video from that perspective. Had 14 year old girls actually arrived at the clinic for treatment, we have no way of knowing what the employees would have done. To assume they would have abetted the "pimp" though, is a huge leap.
