Nice story, but hydroponic gardening has been appropriated by old hippies as an "alternative" way to grow pot at home.

When in my twenties I was seriously injured. Recovery took a long time. My orthopedic surgeon told me to start a little garden, I did. Today people stop in my yard to look at my garden, and we eat fresh veggies right up until thanksgiving. there is so much that can be done for the mentally ill. these people deserve recognition for what they do every day. The fact that they can eat the therapuetic plan is unbelievably awesome.

As I mentioned in my last post, it's amazing what can be accomplished when someone takes the time to teach those who are mentally challenged or in need of someone to believe in them. They just need to believe in themselves and we ''so-called'' sane people need to know, they are capable of so much more than the chances they are given.

Has anyone seen the PBS show featuring ''mentally challenged'' and other disadvantaged musicians giving performances before audiences in beautiful auditoriums and around the country. It was unbelievably beautiful! With guidance by a young man who trained and directed their performances, you would never guess they weren't any other professional group. Again, they were wondrful! Hope you check it out on PBS since they usually reschedule performance like this.

Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives and I think I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That's what's insane about it.

This is a wonderful program and if it provides one thread of hope, pleasure or purpose to any involved, it will have succeeded.
Bravo!

Newsflash! "The Mentally Ill" are just people, like anybody else. They thrive when they have a purpose. To have a mental illness is to be treated like you are useless, scary, stupid, inept and HOPELESS. Many people with mental illness are highly intelligent and/or creative and WANT to make a contribution to the world around them. They want to work (but especially now, nobody wants to hire them).
Medication, therapy - they work wonders for many, but without the sense of usefulness, the outlook can be quite grim.

Ecotherapy provides not only solace, but solid mental and physical health benefits: decreased anxiety, increased self-esteem and relaxation, lower blood pressure, a sense of community. This has turned out to be true in study after study.

There is something soothing about nurturing nature. Digging in the earth keeps one grounded. Growing hydrponically is equally calming. With our weather becoming so crazy & unpredictable, people are beginning to see that they can grow any number of food crops hydrponically, without influence of weather.
