Vanity Fair's Hollywood Issue 2011 Cover Revealed (PHOTO)

First Posted: 02/01/11 01:35 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:30 PM ET

Vanity Fair has unveiled the cover of its 17th annual Hollywood Issue, for which the magazine "went back to the basics - no teenagers, no penguins, no (full-on) nudity, just the most exciting actors and actresses of the moment." There is also a lion cub and some Olivia Wilde side boob.

Last year's cover came under fire for featuring only young white women for the second year in a row.

This year there is more age and gender diversity and two people of color appear after the fold - 'The Hurt Locker' star Anthony Mackie and Rashida Jones (whose father, Quincy Jones, is black and mother, Peggy Lipton, is Jewish).

From left to right: Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, James Franco, Jennifer Lawrence, Anthony Mackie, Olivia Wilde, Jesse Eisenberg, Mila Kunis, Robert Duvall, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Andrew Garfield, Rashida Jones, Garrett Hedlund and Noomi Rapace (the original 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo').

Read more about the cover shoot here and pick up the new Vanity Fair on newsstands Thursday.

It is ashame Ryan Gosling did not make the cover either! Ellen should bring him back on her show to follow-up on his Jumpin Jammerz movement from the Golden Globes see clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dm8_awuOqO0

I want to ask why are all of the fully dressed in classy tuxes and mosy of the women naked??
Another double standard.

ONE girl is almost naked. The others are in gowns not unlike the ones you would see on the red carpet.
Calm down, not everything is a feminist issue.

Why are they wearing clothes?

In all honesty, I think there are a number of issues with Hollywood.

The white American male is seen to be a clown who can only star in comedies about never being able to grow up.

I can't even name a black actor under the age of 40 in Hollywood.

I can't even name a Mexican actor of any age.

Actually, there is only one black person on this cover. Rashida Jones is Jewish and considers herself white; only dates Jewish, white men, all of her friends are white and she is part of that world. Ecstatic when photographed with her mom, Peggy Lipton.

One black on the cover.

I take it back. There is diversity. I see an animal next to Rashida. Eff this magazine and bravo to Ebony, Essence, BET and all other media outlets that have to exist to make up for blatant exclusion of black people like this For Whites Only magazine. Shame on any black or half black for being used as tokens on the cover.

And how many "Whites" are on the Lakers, 2 ?! Blake &* Walton as Gasol is from Spain. But do you think I care ? Not at all, as I want the best players to try & win, no matter their color, but you are hung up on colors & I would suggest you get past it.

Hey, um, movies and basketball are not the same thing. There is your lesson for the day. GirlinNYC is 100% correct. This cover is problematic as it shows Hollywood has a massive diversity problem.

It isnt a concious decision to choose black people. like it is too choose white people for this cover.

I love it how black people make everything about racism. Vanity Fair chose the actors who starred in this year's hits and breakout roles. Race was not an issue, though reviews, awards and box office grosses were. The issue is not about Vanity Fair's choice, but about the black Hollywood Filmmakers and black audience. Black filmmakers, when given the chance, make movies that appeal to the lowest common denominator, e.g. Tyler Perry. Those movies don't get nominations. The black audience does not go out an support their own community, e.g. look at Halle Berry's movies

What a bunch of lies. Tyler perry makes commercially successful films and never gets nominated. Just stop with the lies.

Anyone who says race isn't an issue isn't black for sure. Re. NatureMuzic.

& people like you are part of the problem - had you read my post, you'd get it, but you didn't, & never will!

for the record, GirlinNYC, I have no problems with you personally, as we don't know each other okay ? but I do disagree with your view on this, so we can agree to disagree.

A whole 1 1/2 blacks. Progress. Especially considering that the mainstream media HATES black women who are NOT biracial.
03:19 AM on 02/03/2011
they didn't hate Condaleeza Rice - you're reaching NYC Girl & quit playing the race card!
And I dare you to try &* answer my post, re: the NBA, NFL, etc.. & guessing that's why you didn't try!

your reaching with condaleeza rice! It's like me saying 'How can u say there is no attractive blonde intellectuals, theres paris hilton.

& you should be ashamed of yourself "i 1.2 blacks", really ?! They are people & you need to quit labeling! Again, people like you are part of the problem, not the solution!

oh give me a break! I am sick of complaining about this kind of thing! I am no racist, but this whining is getting old!

So when I watch an NBA game & all 10 players on the floor are "of color" , then what do you say ? Or I watch an NHL game & all are white? & why is MLB dominated by Latin Americans ? & why does the NFL make teams interview black candidates fore head coaches, but yet the majority of players are black ?

I watch a game of any/all sports & hope it's entertaining & don't give a rat's furry behind of the skin colors of the players! I also enjoy good films, TV, music, based on their content, not the color of the content!

My favorite all time NFL players were & still are, Calvin Hill & Tony Dorsett, NHL player, Butch Goring(white), NBA player, Earvin Johnson, MLB players Reggie Smith & Tommy John, actors, James Stewart & Merle Oberon(mixed - I believe 1 parent from India & the other from England)),, etc.. Get the point ? I like who I like based on their style, abilities, personality, character, so on, not because of their color!

But then I see people here, whining about a magazine cover ? This is a non story people, yet some here are trying to make it into something it's not & it's this type of attitude that can cause more problems than the alleged source of

You do realize that the NBA is a meritocracy and people get on the team by having actual skills. Success in Hollywood is not about skill, it's about who THEY perceive as marketable. Still, there's a reason why Tyler Perry films do so well at the box office. Because the rest of the Hollywood mainstream has failed to tap into the African-American box office like they should have.

Next time I hear Hollywood whining about declining box office, I'll remind them that they fail to appeal to as many facets of the market as they can. And the next time I hear someone trying to defend the lack of African American faces in Hollywood with SPORTS (which actually require that players compete on skill levels and not some fresh from college marketing major's interpretation of marketability) then I'll call them on the false equivalency.
10:42 AM on 02/03/2011
I disagree completely & Tyler Perry does well, because ? Yea, he is skilled in his art! But nice try to attempt to derail the issue.

I think Rashia pretty, but she's also very fair. No Pun Intended. I laugh every time America and its media claim to be liberal.

I like how they stuck the lone person of color right in the middle, perhaps to keep us from being overwhelmed by all the "diversity" flanking" him?

Because we are too dumb to notice the lack of Asians, Hispanics, and others who, you know, see movies.
