Sir Charles,

One of the best issues to tackle in the BB arena is 'whether there exists a set of modifications in basketball's rules that increase the interest in and fan base for every team in the NBA.'

The Modifications:

1. Raise the basket from 10 ft to 11' or 12'. Dunking is no longer a challenge for any professional player. Ex. Mugsy Boges.

2. When a team makes a basket it retains the ball. They take it out at the opposite end of the court. This forces both teams to play defense every game not ust the last third of the season and in the playoffs, etc.

3. Enforce travel and carry rules. Both give the team on offense an unfair advantage, that's why they're rules. to allow refs to ignore a majority of these violations perpetuates unsportsmanship. Moreover, you know well the advatage these infractions gave to the MJ's in the NBA, particularly, during playoff and championship games.

My recommendation, if I had to select just one would be #2 above. No defense no scoring. We used this rule back in all of our street ball games in the '50's in upstate NY. It ended the dawgin' it on defense for the hotshots and the not so hotshots because money was on the line.

PotomacOracle, you will move to the head of the class, please. Remembering Muggsy Bogues, is, of course, a reward unto itself but remembering it while having a conversation with Sir Charles is just downright outstanding!

Until now, I thought I probably held the record for having a head full of the names of NBA players, their stats and worthless trivia. Sadly, that is untrue.

Carry on, sir.

Thanks F & F for the kudos and the correct spelling of Mugsy's last name. I remember him so well because I'm 5'11" and was dunking back in the mid-late fifties. If us little guys are really challenged at ten feet, the big guys ought to be challenged at 11'-12'.
