Michael Steele Meets His 'Daily Show' Puppet (VIDEO)

In a historic "Daily Show" moment Tuesday night, former Chairman of the Republican National Committee Michael Steele -- the real one -- met the puppet who has been representing him for so long in "Daily Show" interviews.

As soon as Steele sat down for his interview, Jon Stewart was confused. Was this the same Michael Steele he had been interviewing all this time? But just then, the puppet we thought Stewart had said goodbye to after the real Steele's term ended, popped out:

"Sorry I'm late Water-Gate!" the puppet Steele (voiced by Wyatt Cynac) said. He then proposed a way for Stewart to tell which one was the real Steele:

"Only one thing to do Jonny B. Stew-- Ask us questions only the real Michael Steele would know."

Watch the clip below to hear Stewart grill both Steeles on topics like "Drill, baby drill" and Reince Priebus. Bonus: hear the real Michael Steele actually say the phrase "Take a hike Dick Van Dyke."

I think Mr. Steele is a member of the wrong party. Come over from the dark side sir. Last night was priceless...

No wonder the right wanted him out. He's actually kind of reasonable. Didn't mix well with the whacknuts the rest of the GOP became.

He's quite an amusing fellow.

At least he's a good sport, has a sense of humor and can articulate some thoughts... No wonder they kicked him out of the GOP.

Hmmm... a black Republican... in a high office within the party... fully equipped with humor... and drove the GOP into debt... only one conclusion: Michael Steele is a DEMOCRAT!

You just wait til the 2012 circus really gets going and the GOP won't have the funds to fight. That notion of him being a sheep in wolf's clothing will probably be uttered by some of the more insane members of the party (Palin, Bachmann). Maybe someone will even play the race card (Obama, Steele, both black, you know, people talk...).

Hilarious!

It was sort of funny at first but turned lame by the end.

So, let me understand everyone since Michael Steele didn't have the guts to do wanted he wanted while he was head of the rnc. Now because shows up on the daily show and pretends to be a good sport, well everything is forgiven. Nope not buyin it , he meant everything he said and did while head of the RNC and now since he has no support or friends to turn well now he was just misunderstood, that was another Michael Steele who did all those things. He was used to counter Obama and when that failed they kicked his ass out. Now we get a guy who can come on the daily show and real time, who says that he was under a lot pressure not do certain things but you know Michael Steele is from the streets.

I wouldn't say "everything is forgiven" but that it was a good move by Steele to do the show and play along. Something good will probably come of it for him.

I'm guessing those qualities don't play well in the RNC right now.
