The Hollywood Reporter:

Stephen King's grand opus The Stand is finally getting the big-screen treatment.

Warner Bros. and CBS Films are teaming to adapt the novel, which in many ways set the bar for a generation of post-apocalyptic stories and influenced works ranging from TV's Lost to music group Anthrax.

I can't imagine cutting The Stand down to a feature film. I still remember skepticism for the miniseries because some considered the book to be unfilmable. I loved the miniseries but as a feature film, even an extended 3 hour one, it doesn't sound promising.

Saw the first movie with Jack Nicholson, Liked it.
Saw the TV-Movie. Fell asleep in the first hour.
Okay let's see how this version goes. In the mean time might I recommend Albert Camu's "The Plague"?

The movie with Jack Nicholson was "The Shining" not "The Stand"

My bad. Had the two confused. Now I remember the mini-series with Gary Sinise. Still liked it.

There was a time when I thought I was the only person who had read The Stand.

I read a lot of Scifi during the time it was originally released, especially the work of John Brunner, an English author (The Sheep Look Up), and King's book was amazing for many reasons. I remember the tv version getting trashed which unfortunately reflects back upon the original novel, which is totally unfair.

Fanned for knowing about John Brunner, who happened to be pretty darned prophetic sometimes. I read 'The Stand' when I was on Japanese fishing vessels for 3 months in the Bering Sea in January (in other words, stormy) as a foreign fisheries observer. Dark most of the time, rough seas, and I worked at odd hours of the day and night, when catches came in. Very eerie atmosphere to read a compelling book!

I remember watching the TV version while I was laid up in bed with the flu. Bad timing.

The Stand is one of my favorite Stephen King book ... Great characters and even though it is a long book stay very tense all the way through .. I think it should really be considered an epic.

So, I can't wait until this come to the "Big Screen", especially since the television version was a disappointment. With all the new CG - it's going to be so cool.

A movie of The Stand could be amazing, the TV version is my 2 favorite Stephen King film after Rose Red.

Its about time. It will have to a long one, or a 2 parter to get all the action in. I thing HBO should be doing it instead, a mini-series that covers the full depth of the novel. I can't wait, but will believe it when I see it.

100% agree.

Look at the production value of Boardwalk Empire.... HBO can knock it out of the park when they try.

I could dig it.  The TV version was great.  I usually hate book movies but he did a very very good job.

I have always wished HBO or the like would take this on as a limited series that followed the story line exactly.

Again? There was already a 4 part miniseries/movie released in the 90's that had a few big name actors in it and was nominated for and won several awards.

The Stand movie, like most Stephen King adaptations needs to be Rated R. The Stephen King ABC movies and miniseries are unworthy of the source material.

Yeah it would absolutely have to be rated R, I heard the movie IT coming out will be rated R though so if that does well maybe they'll do the same for The Stand.

Yup, again. And this time, no Jaime Sheridan as Randall Flagg. Pleeze!
