Anglophenia blog:

Is this all some sort of post-colonial payback? Has a gang of rogue Brits suddenly descended upon Hollywood and replaced our American-born gods with UK ones? At Anglophenia, our longstanding tagline has been "British culture with an American accent." But over the past month, Britishness has so thoroughly permeated American pop culture that we can hardly tell the difference between the two.

This January, we've gasped as British comedian Ricky Gervais roasted Hollywood's sacred cows as host of the Golden Globes, which featured a parade of Gervais' compatriots - from Tilda Swinton and Dame Helen Mirren to Idris Elba and Helena Bonham Carter - as presenters and nominees.

There really isn't any new white American talent in Hollywood.

I can't think of any great white American actors that have come around since Dicaprio. There isn't any black talent either. I seriously can't name a single black actor in Hollywood under the age of 40.

Invasion? Hardly... there are probably still more Canadians than Brits in Hollywood\on TV. The Canucks are just sneakier. You can't tell by their accents that they're here... ;-)

Honestly, I appreciate the talents of all these people. But a thought did drift through my mind..do we no longer have any available talent born in America? It seems we are suddenly being inundated with foreign talent, which in of itself, is alright..but it seems at a time our country is losing in every arena..technology, transportation, manufacturing..we are outsourcing jobs..do we really want an influx of non-american's taking over some of our iconic positions, too? Our entertainment industry is perhaps one of the few surviving industries.I'm not making a statement, pro or con, just that its crossed my mind.

Hugh Laurie joked that they work cheaper. But I think he might have been on to something.
