Obama: 'I've Got Some Love For The Steelers'

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- President Barack Obama is hinting on Pennsylvania soil that he might root for Pittsburgh's beloved Steelers when they meet Green Bay Sunday in the Super Bowl.

Obama told a crowd that "I've got some love for the Steelers."

But Obama also noted he'd visited a factory town near Green Bay just last week, and he'd come to Pennsylvania "in the spirit of fairness" to wish Steeler fans good luck as well.

The president appeared to be trying to straddle two crucial electoral states after rooting unambiguously for his hometown Chicago Bears earlier. Obama previously said he wouldn't take sides in the Super Bowl, after his Bears were eliminated.

Obama visited Penn State University to tour research labs and talk about the economy.

This is why I enjoy being a Steeler fan. NOBODY gave us a chance and every team that has gone to talk smack about us this season has gone on to suffer an agonizing defeat.

The media is hyping up the Pack to be this unstoppable juggernaut team, pffft! The only team they managed to really rough up this season was the Falcons the second time they faced them.

Don't get me wrong, I expect a  Read More...

Yess there are still some steel-makers in PittsburgH, but nothing like the old days. And there is no meat-packing company sponsoring the Packers, but the original deal gave the sponsor the right to name the team.

not surprising to hear Obama is for steelers, no self respecting bear fan would ever root for the packers, seeing how its the longest rivalry (Bear vs. Packers) in the NFL

I think the greatest single comment I've ever heard from any Steeler came from James Harrison shortly after Election Day in 2008. Asked who he'd voted for, Harrison responded that both candidates were clowns and that he hadn't voted at all. He's been my favorite ever since. GO STEELERS!

I think the fact the team from the smallest market is in the game makes it awesome. Its rare to say that about baseball or basketball. It's nice to not have the cheatingest team (NE Patriots) in it. It's nice to not have big money teams (cowboys) in it. Its two teams from two working man's towns. It's what we need.

Okay, Obama is a Bears fan. It's nearly imposible for any Bears fan to show support for our Packers. It would be the same if our President was a Ravens fan......

Sorry - presidents shouldn't be showing favoritism in the Superbowl - or in any sports teams - because it's bound to alienate SOMEBODY.........
03:29 AM on 02/04/2011
I disagree, I would rather see him in his like "any other American football fan" mode-then play neutral because he isn't. He is a Bears fan and like any other American, he doesn't want his rival -less known the one that ended his teams season to win. I can't blame him. Love for the game and having a blast as fans should be enough to bound us together not which team we happen to cheer for. You'll forever have the championship game to throw in his face-Get in the spirit. Oh, he is probably a cubs fan too --so a little mercy won't hurt,

Actually OBama is a huge White Sox fan

If someone votes or does not vote for a president because who they root for in the super bowl that person should not be voting in the first place.

Steelers owner Dan Rooney is the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland. That might be why Obama has a little love for them.
05:47 AM on 02/04/2011
Early in Obama's election campaign, Rooney convinced many Pennsylvania power brokers to support Obama.
I'm a bigger Steeler fan than Heinz Ward. Go for Seven.

Mr. President, there's nothing wrong with loving a loser :) The Packers put the Bears into hibernation, there are ready to melt some Steel....and it won't be easy but come Sunday night, that Lombari is headed for Green Bay.

You sound like a drip...If you want Bret to cry, go over there and cause him some pain. The Steelers need that seventh ring...

After the Jets lost I could care less who wins. But I will watch anyway.
