Beat The Winter Blues By Heading To The Desert

With sunny highs in the 60s (at lower altitudes) and bright blue skies, a trip to the desert in winter could be just the thing to snap seasonally depressed snowbound northerners out of the end-of-the-season funk. This brief respite from the blistering heat allows ambitious types to rock climb and take long hikes without risking heat exhaustion (though you'll need sunblock--and serious polar fleece at sundown when temperatures plummet). The contrasts in winter are sharper. Photographers and botany geeks can linger as long as they like capturing the desert flora.
