Hugh Jackman Eating 6,000 Calories A Day For 'Wolverine' Role

Darren Aronofsky sure makes weighty demands of his actors.

The Oscar-nominated director had Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis lose big weight for their ballet drama 'Black Swan,' and now that he's taking the helm of the next 'X-Men' movie, 'The Wolverine,' he's making star Hugh Jackman gain major weight.

"Darren said with the last one, 'Hey you looked great, but you're so tall that in those long shots you looked kind of like Clint Eastwood, and that's not Wolverine,'" Jackman told the Los Angeles Times. "He said that Wolverine, in the comics, is powerful, stocky...he's short and thick. So he said, 'I want you to go there, get bigger.'"

Jackman has played Wolverine in four films already, and often played him lankier than the comic portrays the mutant superhero, a sturdy, hardened warrior.

Back in December, Aronofsky spoke to MTV about his attraction to the project, which in large part was due to Jackman.

The problem with HUGH is that so many movies are tainted with drug users like Vin Diesel ,Mickey Rourke and Jake Gylenhal(prince of persia! lol. fooling who?)

a terrible director who constantly calls attention to himself and is hysterical in style and cliched in substance. A good fit for the Hollywood and audiences who cannot focus, adore the special effect and have no understanding of character or drama, comedy or style.

I agree with you, I saw 'Black Swan' and Natalie Portman carried that movie. His direction and special effects were good, but wouldn't have carried that movie. It reminds me of the Director for the last Predator movie, They cast Adrian Brody, who I feel is a good actor, as the lead, but, Adrian wasn't believable and I didn't like it at all. The special effects were good in that movie as well!

I found the Clint Eastwood comparison interesting--when I saw the first X-Men movie 10 years ago, I thought that in many scenes Jackman had a distinct resemblance to Eastwood! Maybe he doesn't really resemble the comic-book version of Wolverine, but I'm just fine with the cinema version! :)

probably one of the toughest disciplines counting calories to stay in single digits in body fat...you look good, but you're always hungry, cold and on the verge of catching something

Didn't see the first Wolverine movie, will definitely see the second because of Aronofsky's involvement.
