No, you're right, Glenn. As a graduate of Harvard with a Ph.D in international relations, two years at the London School of Economics, and twenty years in the State Department, you are eminentlyf qualified to analyze the Middle East's politics and upheavals.

Then again, if you dropped out mid-way from the one and only course you took at Yale, they you're talking through your hat. With elephantine halitosis.

Its news because the story of the Egyptian people will not get out with out reporters there to report. Once you take away the 4th estate, more evil can be done. Its also newsworthy, as the rounding up of reporters, the scaring of reporters, etc, may be a sign of something big coming from the government, if they are willing to send out thugs to beat reporters and try and get the reporters to leave, then there is probably a larger plan.

The reason we know about Egypt and the Egyptians is because of journalists who risks their lives to tell us what is going on and to show us. If they disappear, the many sides of the truth disappears.
05:26 PM on 02/03/2011
we knew about it 5 days before all the reporters parachuted in this is about ratings and trying to "make a story" not reporting

We 'condem' but we have what...given Mubarak 28 billion over the years? We think we give for development of an economy but we end up giving for dictator military development.

Journalists were arrested at last year's G20 conference in Toronto but nobody seemed to care.

Why is injustice in Egypt more important than injustice in Canada?

It's only "protective" of the regime; I hope they don't permanently disappear. I hope their translators, drivers, secretaries, and all associated families are okay, too.

Did we doubt this wouldn't happen? Everyday on the news journo's were asking if the crowd had turned on those reporting the news or if there was anti-American protest. I think the US was wise to start advising people to get out while they could.

How telling that the protests were peaceful until Mubarek "supporters" (quotations appropriate, they are probably being paid for their efforts) got into the mix.

I meant to write "that they could have escorted them to a safe place instead of taking them into custody" As you have implied, that is probably not so.

Hope the journalists are really in 'protective custody' and won't be found dead somewhere. I am still hoping that the military is trying to keep the peace.
